1.(a) "Tora! Tora! Tora!" was actually the code sent back to the fleet by the pilot in command of the first wave of attack aircraft, reporting that they have Pearl in sight and have achieved total surprise (ie. no US fighters waiting for them). The actual go-ahead code "Climb Mt. Nitaka" was sent from Tokyo to the fleet several days earlier, instructing them to press on with the attack as planned.

2. (b) Douglas MacArthur was actually ordered by FDR to leave the Philippines. It was his deputy, Gen. Wainwright who was later forced to surrender.
