Today we all had a brilliant laugh: In the middle of our lecture, a security guard walked in, with a HUGE (70cm long, 40cm wide) pile of roses and two bags full of goodies for one lucky student. Just funny!
However, I also remember all the horror and humiliation and annoyance of school (primary and high school - eqquivalent) where everyone had to pull a name out of a hat and write them a card. Pure terror - especially if you hardly knew the person you had picked.
Somehow this entire day annoys me (I have never taken part and always just observed the thnigs going on around me with a mixture of curiosity and lack of understanding). Some people get overexcited long before, as if it was christmas, and can't wait until it happens. Some people are optimistic and look forward to it. Most get disappointed in the end, or they get cards from people they did not expect.... On the whole a day of surprises, fun, disappointments and humiliation
What is all this fuss about? This day is probably the weirdest holiday of the year, as half the people enjoy it while the other half suffer. (oh, and some people like me just ignore this cheesy crap, laughing or shaking their head at the others...) Personally, I can't make up my mind whether it is a good holiday, or the evil product of consumerism and the flowers indutry (just as Halloween is the product of the sweets industry) What do you guys think? Keep it, ignore it, abolish it?
Looking forward to hear your opinion
