Do you believe that your current gun control laws have contributed directly to the drop in homicides and armed robberies taking place in Canada? If so, how?

Its hard to say because the restrictions on handguns and the like have been established for a very long time. Only this year have we started the firearms registry so it is too early to tell.

I think the reason for lower crime rates is that although there are many instances of poverty in our country, the gap in standard of living between rich and poor is far less than it is in the US.

I believe it has, i barely know anyone in Canada that owns a firearm, whereas when i go to the US, its a different story, but i wont say shootings dont happen here, just at a lower rate.

Nope. Reason for drop in both is demographics( aging population) and good economic times.

Okay Okay Okay, I am breaking the rules hear a bit because I am not Canadian.
However, my friends up in Langley, B.C. call me an 'Honorary Canadaian' because I know more about Canada than the average US citizen. Probably from all the Rush and Tragically Hip concerts.

Gun contol laws do work!
Canada is living proof of that.
The United States has to grow up and rid it's self of it's pro-gun mentality. The National Rifle Association has too much power over the republican party down here.

This will change but I think our counttry will become more violent before it finally changes.  Sad

All of the repulicans say that gun control doesn't work, and it will only make things worse. However, Canada and Europe are both existing examples that gun control does work and keeps crime and murder lower. Whenever we tell them that, they just ignore it and say that gun control will never work. I think I need to live in Canada. Big grin

Well I guess that I can legally give a quarter of an opinion.

Guns have never killed anybody.

Only the people who use them are the guilty parties.

The reasons why there aren't the problems in the southland is that

A: There have never been the slums that exist in the U.S.

B: A much smaller population. I go back to that rat experiment where they showed that a few rats in a space didn't generate as much stress as a larger group in the same space.

I would go into how the current Canadian system is just a means to raise taxes on a segement of the population but that would take up more then the quarter of an opinion I am allowed

I currently own a few weapons.

The ability to obtain the permits to buy them here is a lot more difficult than the US. It has been this way for years.

So I would say yes to your question.
