Hey! We are studying Mythology in school right now. I really really don't like it. My teacher asked us to write our own myth over the weekend. I just wrote mine. I was aiming for the 'smart-ass who doesn't like mythology' type of myth. If any of you know anything about Mythology, you may recognize some of the characters. Let me know what ya think.
Why We Have Airplanes and Pilots
One day, Hermes had gone out to eat with his girlfriend and his cell phone, which had previously been invented by Prometheus, started ringing. He picked it up and on the other end was Hera. Hera promised Hermes that if he would let her know when Zeus was cheating on her, then she would pay him 3 million dollars. Hermes agreed, then he pulled out his laptop computer, which Coeus had invented about 2 weeks earlier, and started searching for Zeus.
He found Zeus hitting on a bowlegged silver and gold cow. So, Hermes got really excited because he was going to be a millionaire now! He typed in Hera’s email address and sent her the exact location of Zeus and the cow. The email was sent back saying that Hera didn’t have a computer yet! Hermes was devastated! How was he going to get the message to Hera without leaving his girlfriend alone in the restaurant? He thought really fast and then the thought hit him!
Hermes jumped up from the table and ran out the door, followed by his girlfriend. He made a very large tube, large enough for both of them plus a restaurant. Then, he attached wings to each side. He loaded the inside with accessories and a cockpit for two. Then he added huge engines on each wing. Now he was ready to go! Hermes and his girlfriend climbed in the cockpit that he had made especially for the TWO of them. He closed the doors and was ready to go. Then, he realized… he didn’t know how to operate the magnificent machine that he had just created. So, he called Prometheus and Epimetheus and asked them to make 2 people to fly the plane and they would be called pilots. Finally, everything was ready to go. Everyone was on the plane and the pilots were preparing for the first takeoff in the history of anything.
The machine was fast, very fast! Hermes and his girlfriend barely had enough time to finish eating before they were at Hera’s house. Hermes ran inside and told Hera where Zeus was and what he was doing. Hera was very grateful for Hermes’ effort and decided to pay him twice as much as she had originally planned. She gave him 6 million dollars and then paid the pilots herself. Since a goddess had just paid the pilots, that made flying one of the highest paying occupations available.
Hermes decided to call the machine and airplane. He would go on to make thousands of airplanes and sale them for about 10 times as much as they were worth, and that is why airplanes are so expensive.
