European Leagues, Too Corporate?

Mon Apr 09, 2001 2:32 am

I bet most of the europeans(especially british) will know that most european sports jerseys are filled with advirtisements. Is it me, or has there been a lack of team spirit? I will some times watch EPL on Fox sports net, and the only way i know what time is what is when the announcer says "x team is blue, a team is white" but other than that, the jerseys are filled with sponsors and does not have the team name anywhere, what do you guys think about it? Has this shown that it is now about corporations sponsoring instead of team pride?

I guess all of them have the team name or symbol somewhere in the jersey.
The point is that nowadays the team deals with large amount of money, so they need sponsors and stuff.

English soccer clubs have their lofo on the left breast of the jersey. And yes, it is getting too corporate, but the other side of the coin is that the clubs are getting richer (Manchester United are now the richest sports club in the world, almost entirely through sponsorship and TV rights). It has got so bad that some lower league clubs sign Chinese Internationals in order to get the cable rights for China! Imagine that, a TV audience of 1 billion for a lower league match!
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Wow, the chinese people must love soccer.
The bad point of being too corporate is that people don't play more just for love, we'll never see another team like the brazilian team of the World Cup of 1970, the best team ever in lot of people opinion.
Soccer player of the Pelé time don't have any money today, those player who were many many time better than today players just were forgotten. The press and the sport co. just like Nike must be "refreshing the idols" all the time, they must find another Jordan to sell their products, and the press make young player feel like gods, and then it's just sign a sponsor contract and they will have money for a long time so they just forgot about playing for love and play just 'coz they have a contract.
