MSN Messenger....argh

Wed Apr 11, 2001 1:37 pm

Does anyone else have major problems with MSN Messenger? Mine tends to freeze up a lot- especially right after I log in. And if I have a browser window open with my hotmail account open, the messenger freezes THAT up too. So right now, the only thing I can access is the airliners.net forum and chatroom!

I guess you can't expect much from freeware...

ICQ is a good program, but virtually no one I know has one.

I like my messenger.....but I've been getting booted off of MSN a lot...not sure whether to blame the local phone lines or MSN...probably MSN. I've had no problems with messenger, though, and like it better than AIM

MSN is the best instant messenger ever. It's great. Functional, flexible and looks nice as well.

Better than AOL IM in my opinion. ICQ? A bit plain for me.

Yes, MSN messenger is nice but it really tends to have problems.
I can't chat with my collegues in my same LAN as we are behind a firewall.
I can chat with someone outside my LAN but it usually crashes every few minutes and I have to close all other browse windows except my Hotmail. This despite the 3.6 version is designed to operate in LAN and firewall environment.

Ciao

I've had absolutely no problems with MSN Messenger.

But ICQ makes my computer crash, so I rarely use it anymore. Plus I always have network problems with ICQ it seems, so it's a real pain.

Don- I've had the same problems. It does lose the connection without warning quite a lot. I doubt it is the phone lines if both of us are having the problem.
I can handle that for the most part.... its just the freezing up I hate!

I've been using ICQ since 1997 without many problems, hardly anyone I know use messenger. Plus, if you use the 99b version you don't get any pop-up ads!
Messenger is too gimmicky.

I've had ICQ for the longest time. I don't know anyone who has MSN or even AIM. But MS and AOL need to release compact or lite versions of their respective IM programs because they're getting way too big and excessive. They just hog memory- especially ICQ. I don't even try to run it on my laptop.

I have both, and I prefer ICQ 2000b to MSN and I have had few problems, I use ICQ for Global friends & MSN for friends I see every day at school.
