Question About Project Gemini

Tue Apr 17, 2001 7:26 am

Just a question about the Gemini space program.

1. What rocket did they use to launch the Gemini spacecraft?

Thank You,

Chris Johnson

(I hope this is in the right fourm)

Gemini was launched using the Titan booster, which was sizably larger than the Atlas and Redstone boosters used for Mercury. All three of these boosters were actually ICBM missiles, with the warhead replaced by the spacecraft.

Apollo was a whole different story - Way, way bigger.

This was Redstone, 21m high:

This was Atlas, 25m high

This was Titan, 31m high

All were liquid fueled, unlike the minuteman, which used solid fuel. The idea of using solid fuel to carry humans was considered crazy right up until the Space Shuttle, which uses 2 solid fuel boosters.

Here's a Minuteman II, 18m high:

Cheers,

Cfalk:

Where did you get the pictures of the missiles from?

Thanks,
