I found a full Flight Attendant's manual for Eastern Airlines a few years ago, and I never really looked at it. I'm reading it now, and I want to share with you some of the requirements in 1966:
"Buns, chignons, French twists, boyish bobs, pony tail, straight hair, excessive teasing, extreame bouffants, or other extreme hair styles are not permitted"
"Lipstick must be worn. Only true reds, corals, and dark pinks, non-iridescent, are acceptable colors."
"Nails must be of medium length and neatly manicured. Nail polish colors must be true reds or pinks."
This is starred: "Weight must be maintained in proportion to heigh and may not vary appreciably from employee's weight when hired."
"Harsh, bright, unnatural looking colors, frsoting, tipping, stripping, or frequent changes of hair color will not be permitted."
"Stewardness are not permitted to come to the field on Company business in shorts, jeans, slacks, etc., hair up in curlers, or without makeup."
"Stewardesses in uniform are expected to use disecretion while smoking in public. They must always be seated and conduct themselves in a ladylike manner."
