CN Tower. That needle at the top gives it the extra height needed to top the rest. Sears tower is second. I don't know about the Petronas Tower.

The CN tower (which I am looking at from my window right now  Smile/happy/getting dizzy) is the tallest free-standing structure in the world. However, it isn't really classified as a building. The Petronas towers take that title.

Are the Petronas Tower(s) linked by a structure in the middle?

Ok...forget about the semantics, categories, etc.

What man-made structure has the greatest height differential between the ground and the top of the structure?

There was a television tower (held up by wires) in Poland that was taller than the CN tower...and was the tallest manmade structure. However, it fell down after a few years.

Hhhhhmmmmm, Matt, you are Bombstar aren't you?

Defining the Toronto skyline, the CN Tower is Canada's most recognizable and celebrated icon. At a height of 553.33m (1,815 ft., 5 inches), it is the World's Tallest Building and Free Standing Structure, an important telecommunications hub, and the centre of tourism in Toronto.

There you have it. Not the worlds tallest Building though

The TV Tower in Moscow is 545 meters tall, I had a chance to visit it too. There were plans to add to its height.

Q.CN Tower, Sears Tower and the Petronas Tower all claim to be the worlds tallest building. Which one is it?

A. All. CN - tallest structure, Sears Tower - highest habitable and/or office floor, Petronas - tallest building from ground to roof, including spire.

note: antenna(s) excluded.

Personally, I don't recognize the Petronas Towers as the tallest building. Maybe it has to do with national pride, but the fact is, the only reason the Petronas towers are the tallest is that they have the spires to make it so. However, the Sears tower is used from bottom to top, all 1400+ft.

Er, not quite. When measuring the Petronas towers, the tip of the antennas were measured as part of the height of the structure. The Sears Tower, by contrast, the TV towers were for some odd reason not counted in the height. So the Petronas Towers takes the top official honor, though some think the whole thing rather fishy...

to me, the highest building in the world, would be the highest possible occupied floor, which would be the sears tower, or the CN tower.

Many people do not know this, but in fact, the CN Towers IS the World's Tallest Building. The Malaysian Petronas Twin Towers IS the World's Tallest Office Building, as stated in many record books.

I heard there were plans to build the world's first 1 kilometre tall (3000 feet) building in Shanghai by 2010, but whether or not this comes to fruition or not is yet to be seen.

Officially, the Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur are recognised as the world's tallest buildings, as the telecommunications spire is counted as part of the building. This is because of the decorative star of Islam on the spires, meaning that technically the spire is also for decoration and not just telecommunications, and therefore an integral part of the building itself.

I have seen the Petronas towers and have to say that they are awesome, although they only let tourists go up to the level of the bridge.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Weren't the city fathers of Chicago also planning to build the NEWEST "tallest building in the world"? A more slender building? This had to have been a few years ago that I first heard this.

Everybody says its CN Tower 553.3 and Petronas Twin 452.2
I agree.
That mast in Poland was 665meters// no 625meters.. Very very high.
Osikininko Tower. (not sure how spelling is) in Moscow is 445 meters.
Calgary Tower is the tallest building in CANADA!
640feet and 190 meters.. its been erected for a reason.

I heard bout Shanghais future tower.
There gona have this round gap at the top to stinulate the winds...
Chicago may build a tower like that too.
I forgot what it was called. it was in Popular Mechanics.
