Heinz Ruehmann....

Just kidding. It's Basil the Great Mouse detective of course. Usually I can't stand Sherlock Holmes....

The Jeremy Brett/Edward Hardwicke team was my favorite. I haven't read any of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novels, so I can't really say if their interpretation as the truest to that of the author. However, I find Jeremy Brett's portrail to be both the most captivating and the most sincere in its rendition. Edward Hardwicke does a great job of portraying a mild-mannered, level-headed counter-balance to Holmes.
