Minidisc Players In Hong Kong

Tue May 22, 2001 7:02 am

Hello,

I will be heading to Hong Kong this summer for 2-3 days (on the way to Bali). Electrical products are obviously way cheaper in Hong Kong.

What do you think would be the price of a good quality minidisc player/recorder with radio. It MUST be able to record minidiscs. I know that labelled prices go down with bargaining etc.. but what would be a good average price.

A rough price guide: The Sony MzG750 is 2260 Hong Kong Dollars in Ireland.

I would be purchasing it for a friend in Ireland so he needs to know if the savings are really worth it.

Any replies would be appreciated!

Kind Regards,
Jeremiah Teahan

Teahan- Quick Question

Tue May 22, 2001 8:37 am

1. Who uses minidiscs?

2. What do they use them for?

It appears that they are the current edition of Betamax- technically excellent, but market-dead.

But your query has my interest piqued.

In my school MD's used to be pretty common....until the MP3 player came out! It looks like Teahan wants to use it as a substitute for a tape cassette.

go to MongKok in Kowloon (take the MTR) therer are a lot of shop selling electric goods at a very competible price.....just shop around.....i think you would be silly not to buy it in HK when you get the chance (besides....i think HK has a lot more varieties).......and dun worry about warranty....you can get international warranty.......

Hey there,

I own about half a dozen MD portables (Panasonic SJ-MR200, SJ-MJ88, SJ-MJ75; Kenwood DMC-L7R, DMC-L5, DMC-K5; Sharp MD-MT831; Sony MZ-E80; used to own Sony MZ-R900) and devote quite a bit of my stamina towards walkmans as a hobby.

If you want a MD portable with radio, the MZ-G750 is your ONLY choice now, unless you can dig up some old Aiwa model. Sonys are always more expensive than everyone else, so remember to bargain.

You might want to read these (kinda old) articles if you haven't already, a few pointers for buying:

You may not really get any savings unless you go bargain at these smaller shops. Happy shopping!

Hey,

Thanks for all your replies! Normally an international warranty is not a problem (have bought stuff in Singapore last year), you just have to request it when you purchase the item.

If I was buying something for myself, I would definitely buy an MP3 player. I believe Minidisc is a dying format but not everyone believes that....

Thanks!
