PC Or Mac?

What do you have, PC or MAC???

RE: PC Or Mac?

I'm on a WebTV right now so neither. But when I was in Arizona, I was on a PC. There was a MAC in the apt, but we needed a cable modem for it so it never got hooked up to the network.

747 4-ever, you know this will start a war. heh heh. That's OK. Maybe some of the Americans and Europeans will be on the same side for a change.

An old 86040 (that's 486 in PC) desktop
An older Power PC (maybe early Pentiums??) desktop
And a sweet G3 PowerBook (about a Pentium V when they come out) Big grin

I love MacOS. Plenty of titles, so don't bother.

I use my Mac for everything I do, which is:
Word processing, spreadsheet, Internet/email, graphics, web development, database development, scripting, games, presentations, DVD/CD player, web-cam (security) and some other things I do.

I have three macs at home, the newest one is a PowerBook 180 circa 1993. The others are a Colour Classic (1993 - my father is sure it willbe a collector's item one day) and a 1991 LC. When I was young, we only had macs at school so it made sense to get one at home. I also learned to program and set up networks first on macs.

However, Apple really missed the boat by trying to monopolize the market and refused to license their technology until way too late. I still believe that if they had licensed their technology in the late 80s, we would all be using macs and not pcs right now. The interface was light years ahead of PCs until Windows 95...which is conincidentally when I first got a PC.

Now I am a complete PC freak. I have three, the newest is a Insipron 8000 laptop I got a few weeks ago. While PCs aren't as intiuitive for first time users, they are better if you like to customize a system as parts are very cheap and redailly available. Mac hardware is mostly proprietary. And the OS no longer has much advantage over microsoft.

So, bascially apple could have dominated but they dropped the ball

The only use for a MAC is testing to see if gravity still works before you get out of bed in the morning (drop it out the window, the higher the better, if you don't hear a loud crash, stay in bed).  Big thumbs up

I have both--a 1GhZ Athlon with 256MB 133 SDRAM and a nVidia 64MB Geforce 2 card, and a G# mac with 400MHZ and 192MB RAM. I have to say--if you know a fair amount about computers, definitley go for the Windows (my computer runs Windows ME). If you are a newbie--you might be better off with a Mac. I like them both, but I greatly prefer windows--partly because of the sheer number of titles.

I'm still getting along ok at home with my AMD K-6 233 MHz, 64mb of RAM machine that me and a friend built in 1998. It runs Windows ME and Office XP ok so I don't plan to upgrade until soemthing I need doesn't run.

At work they replaced half of our Macs with PCs so we are 75%, 25% Mac. This change is great because it decreases my workload substantially (more time to look at Airliners.net!).

For the war between PC and Mac:
We've got Mac's in school, so I use both and I really have to say, that there isn't so much difference. But there are two good features of Windows that I miss on the MAC: the right mouse button (why the hell the Mac-mouses still haven't got it, it's SO usefull!) and the taskbar (If you have opened several windows on a Mac, you get a real chaos with them...).

Imprezas rule!!

PC, It's an old crappy one though.

166MHZ 32MB of SDRAM

Im ordering a 1000MHZ Athalon with 256MB of DDR RAM soon.

I will probally turn the old one into a Linux station.

Mac's are good too but thay are quite expensive. So for an alternative OS I much prefer Linux.

Well, to be honest i hate Macs, they are over priced and under powered. If i saw a top range one at £300 i'd probably buy it but otherwise no.

I have a PC, which i built myself 2 years ago.

It is an AMD K6-2 500mhz, 128mb RAM, 15gb HDD, 64mb Rage Fury maxx gfx card, Sound Blaster live plantinum (its hooked up to my SA-AK17 stereo system so the sound is complete crystal), iiyama 15inch Monitor, Windows ME!

It does for me, if i can ever be bothered to upgrade i will.

we have other computers, a Thunderbird 1.3ghz with 630mb RAM and a Thunderbird 750mhz with 128mb RAM.

Loads of laptops, 15mhz Pentium, Compaz Pentium 90mhz 16mb RAM, Acer Pentium 233mhz 48mb's RAM and a Sony Vaio 700mhz with 128mb RAM.

Pretty cool huh? A Network of 7 computers!

1 Sony Vaio 650mhz (the thin one)
1 Dell Dimension P233 MMX

Linked with an Intel Inbusiness hub.

Just got to get ADSL now.....

I use PC's and they work fine. It seems like Macs have a lot less speed than the PC's do but they are much more expensive.

PC! Never liked Macs... Have nothing against them though.

PC definitely. Mac's are OK for people who aren't that computer savvy or just want something simple. I like PC's better because there is far more expansion room, and you can customize exactly what you want in it.

These posts often expose the people that don't know shit about computers. If they just do some chest-thumping and say "PC sucks" or "Mac sucks", with no real assessment, then they are exposing their ignorance.

An-225, your answer was good and fair. Hats off to you.

Roadrunner, I'd lay 50 bucks down that your drive is chock full of obsolate files and badly needs defragged.

Kona, actually, Mac users are traditionally savvy. Your first timers are usually found on a PC. However, the success of the iMac has brought in a lot of new first-time Mac users. Also, Macs are notoriously customizable. I'm suprised you said they aren't In fact Mac operating system is scriptable. Did you know that?

Also, in defense of PCs, they have come a long way and non-savvy people can easily get their way around them also. Don't sell them short there. Even Gates said Windows is getting more and more like the MacOS at every upgrade.
