Who Likes Trains And Planes In Here?

Fri Jun 29, 2001 3:33 pm

So, does any1 like both. I do, I have a whole bin full of pics I took of trains, and a small (4X8) HO scale layout in my room. As a friend of mine said, I've gone from one extreme to the other! Now I'm into planes, I'm in the process of building several models, an MD-80, a C32A, and a 747-400. I have FS2000 and plan to get MSTS, when the resources are available ($$$$$)! I've been fortunate enough, by a local railroad, to see and photograph the cabs of some of their locomotives. I will not say anything more because of the possibility of removal from the board. If you want to know, add a post saying you want to know what I did, and I will gladly E-mail you back.

I love planes, hate trains. Spent too much time waiting for them at stations and sitting (or more likely standing) in them to be able to like them...

I am still a big train buff, although perhaps not as big as I used to be. There was a time when I actually prefered trains to planes.

I work in aviation but am more of a railfan. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side.

I used to be BIG into HO scale trains when I was growing up. The last locomotives I bought were 2 Athearn Amtrak AMD-103s (powered and dummy). I used to have an 8'x'4 layout too, but not anymore. All together I probably have about 30 engines, 60-70 cars, and a lot of accesories.

I pretty much get a kick out of anything transportation related.

Though airplanes, for me, are much preferred to trains, I must admit to being a slight rail-fan.

My dad has a rather large S-guage American Flyer collection, and he has some beautiful pieces. My favorite being the "Daylight Express" Southern Pacific Passenger set.

I grew up not far from a much-frequented Union Pacific spur, as well as a Denver and Rio-Grande Western Mainline. I loved to watch the trains, although it never beat a good trip to the airport. Unfortunatly, that spur has been all but abandoned, and the D&RGW R. R. no longer exists (although Union Pacific now owns the right-of-way).

I think that I find steam much more alluring than I used to - particularly "old west" steam (including narrow guage). There is nothing like a steam engine inching it's way along winding mountain tracks.

Trains, planes & automobiles.  Wink/being sarcastic I get a thrill out of any of these mode of transportation. I have several train sets here at home, in N, HO & G scale. I'm building an overhead track system, in G scale, in my living/dining area. Should be about 60 feet of track once it's finished. I also have a classic '67 Mustang, so that's my "car" thrill. And I'm part owner of a Cessna 172K. No ties to a real train...yet. But narrow gauge steamers has always captured my attention more than diesels. I grew up around Knott's Berry Farm. They have two working C-19 class Consolidations, built in 1881. Their sounds has always entralled me. Guess I was born with machinery in my blood.  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

I like planes and trains, although planes are my favorite. Last winter we did a fun trip where we flew to Denver and took the Amtrak back to Salt Lake City. Very excellent trip and I highly recommend it.

Yeah. Subway Trains are cool Smokin cool

I was on a train (for a very long time) in Euroup. It was fun and very interesting. I suppose they are okay, but I don't like trains as much as airplanes.

I like Cruise Ships though Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I have always been into Trains growing up, and strangely, I was always overly excited to fly in my younger years, but I just became a serious airfan just a few years ago. I have been, and will always be a serious railfan. Theres just something about the hobby that is so amazing in it's own way when comapred to aviation. I am a very big Diesel fan, and I own an O scale layout that takes up my whole basement. My fleet is made up mostly of my father's post-war Lionel collection, which I brought out of 20 years storage and had fixed up. I also have a good number of MTH products. I really do want to start an HO layout, but the two things which are needed for such a project (time and lot's of $$$) is something I don't have right now. I am into modeling layouts after "cityscapes", and model commuter rail, and rapid transit. Having lived my whole life in NYC, and grown up with the LIRR, and NYCTA (The LIRR was known for it's historic commuter fleet, and it's safe to say the same about the NYCTA). Sadly, this labor day, Metro-North, NYC's "other" commuter railroad, will retire it's last FL-9, a truely historic diesel/electric locomotive.

The best,

I used to be a big train fan a few years ago but since I became an airliner fan I'm not that exicited anymore. But I still like to travel by train.
