I have two HP's and they are great. I would reccomend them. My friend also has one, and is very happy with it. The prices don't look too bad, either.

My last computer was an HP and the one I have now is a Dell. Dell usually has some pretty good deals. They have a certain type of sale each month on thier site. They also have good customer service. I have never had many problems with the Dell, or the HP. I would suggest the Dell though.

Neither....If you have the knowledge build your own. Dell and HP both use the same low quality components.

Build your own. If you don't know how for some reason, build your own from http://www.ailenware.com. They are amazing people, and great prices. There computers aren't for gaming anymore, and they have great top of the line components and great system support. But I would learn how to build your own...

Both are acceptible machines, I use a Dell at work and my sister has an HP.

If money is an issue you probably will end up going with the HP.

If your only concern is quality then the Dell.

Quality is not assosiated with nither of those companies. Only with the clueless comsumers. For me, they use crap components that aren't worth squat. Alienware uses very nice components, better then nice, top of the line. I have never heard of some of the crap dell and gateway but in there boxes besides the 3d card, processer, and sometimes sound card. Learn How to build your own computer, it might take you 3 days to learn it so you can build one, but the finish product will be 1000% better then what you would spend for a "top of the line" dell or gateway, and you will spend 100's less then buying a namebrand box.

I just ordered a new Dell and am very happy with it. Part of what I liked about them is that you can go to their website and pick EXACTLY what you want your computer to have. A lot of the other companies just had a few models to pick from.

I too just bought a new Dell, and I love it. After selecting the PC I wanted, I could then customize just about anything on it, to get exactly what I wanted. The system runs great, and am very happy with it.

If you don't have much money buy a refurb. they are a few months old and work just as good as a new system.

If you are going for a gaming system I suggest a Falcon Northwest, cheaper than Alienware and they have won more awards and keep their cases nice and tidy.

If you want a laptop stick with a name brand like IBM, Dell, or Winbook since all laptops are not the same you will want the company you buy it from to be there one - two years down the road.

I have a new Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. It runs great and it was a good deal compared to others in the market. Plus you can get "complete care" coverage where Dell will replace your laptop even if you break it out of your own fault (spilling coffee, dropping etc).

I have an HP and a Dell.

The HP has given me and my family nothing but trouble, it had been awful and so has the service.

Because of the constant crashing, freezing and having a useless comp we decided to buy a new comp.

I now have a Dell. I have the Dell Dimension 8100 Pentium 4 etc its brilliant

LGW

PS BUY A DELL

HP's can't be upgraded as well as Dell's can. Buy a dell, or build your own.

Coming from someone who has had experience with both I would say that if you want bang for your buck go with HP, if customer service is important to you go with dell. I have been using Hp's for about 6 years now and the rest of my family uses dell. Quality wise I have never had a problem with any of them. The main thing is that you can get an Hp that is better equipped than a dell for less money. WHile you pay more for a dell, you get at home customer service. Personally I would go with the HP make your money go further.

I would choose the Dell. You can customize it to suit your needs exactly, and they're easy to upgrade. Customer service is great. My dad's had no problems with his Dell Laptop.

Stay away from Dell. I used to think they were the best thing since sliced bread (as far as computer go) but now that I have one I hate it. It came with this POS operating system called Windows Millenium Edition that has been a problem since day one.

Well in the many times I have tried to get support from Dell they have blamed it on me for having too many programs open (I would hardly call having 2 browser windows + napster running "overloading" a $2000 computer) so I pretty much told them its a piece of sh#! and left it at that.

What is the point of buying the "performance" dell if you can only have a max of 2 programs running without crashing the computer. I bought this computer because Dell claimed it was the fastest and was great for running graphic intensive programs and blah blah blah. Ohhh yeah, Internet Explorer is so graphic intensive.

DELL doesnt give a damn about its residential consumers. Oh by the way, the last time I called their "Award winning customer support" I was on hold for exactly 47 minutes before I even reached someone. I was on hold for 47 minutes just to hear "Well your overloading your computer", "No we will not do anything for you" and "The problem isnt Windows Millenium or the computer".

Get Windows 2000. If you do get a Dell and have problems with the OS, make sure your bring it to their attention within 30 days of getting the computer. If you wait longer then 30 days, Dell will just tell you its too bad and they will do absolutely nothing for you.

Also avoid the Sony Trinitron P991 19" monitor. There have been so many problems with this monitor. I have one but thank the lord I havent had any problems yet. This is another area where Dell has really screwed up. When these monitors do fail, Dell sends a refurbished unit. Apparently there still is no fix for these monitors so the refurbished units are defective out of the box or become defective over time. There are plenty of pissed off Dell customers who have had 3 or more replacements and they still cant get one that works.

Good luck.
