Mistakes In Music

Wed Jul 11, 2001 11:08 pm

Do any of you know any songs that have "errors" in them, such as poor mixing, bad and disjointed editing, etc?

Here are a few that I can think of:

"Dust In The Wind" by Kansas: In the middle of the song, where the long fiddle chord is played, you can clearly hear the dropout caused by the bad tape splice when that violin loop was created.

"Sex" By Berlin: Right after singer Terri Nunn (How's that for irony) sings "I'm A Boy...." if you listen carefully, you can hear sort of a low male laugh in the background. It sounds to me like a mike was left on. Although I don't know for sure, I don't think that laugh was intentional.

"Hold On" by Wilson Phillips: Right at the opening of the second chorus, the left channel drops out about 6 dB for about half a second. For some reason, it's hard to hear if listened to directly off CD, but any CD-R or tape will pick it up, and then it's VERY noticeable.

On Crystal Ball by Styx during the long keyboard bit, you can hear where the guy accidently hit an ajoining key while hitting the correct one.

Listen and you'll know what I mean.

All of the Spice Girls' songs appear to have errors, because where there are supposed to be vocals all you can hear is this terrible out of tune wailing.....
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Oh my God, I thaught I was the only person that recognized that!  Wow!
Styx is one of my favorite groups!  Big thumbs up

Other mistakes:
California Dreaming - Mamas & the Papas.
Did you know the vocal chorus couldn't come in at the right time and so they recorded the song with the chours coming in 1 second before it was intended.
Turned out to be a hit!  Smokin cool

RUSH
Working Man.. The feedback from Alex Lifeson's guitar can be picked up when he takes a break in the middle of his guitar solo.

Bad mistakes:
Everything on MTV, the Grammys and all boy groups and girl groups.

The Spice Girls are great!  Big thumbs up
I have two of there albums. I don't know how they sound though! I can care less about there music!  Laugh out loud  Laugh out loud

One other one I just remembered:

An obscure song from the Beatles' early career:

"Every Little Thing"

During Paul's guitar solo, he knocked over an ashtray with his guitar. I guess the "take" was otherwise perfect. So it was kept. In that song, you can hear the metallic "clink" in the background as the ashtray fell.

I agree whole-heartedly with Ryanb741,  Big thumbs up
As well as the Spice Girls, a droning noise can be heard on All Saints, Steps, S Club 7 songs, etc etc.
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

Superfly! YES!!!! Styx rocks!!!!!!! In sixth grade (about 1980), one of our assignments in music class was to make a video to a song. My partner's dad filmed a local hockey game for us and he and I ran it to 'Foolin' Yourself'. (I was really in to 'Grand Illusion' at the time) On the film, one of the players took a nasty check and fell down to the ice injured. It happened during the lyrics, "Get up! Get back on your feet..." The music teacher assumed we intended that and thought we were freakin' geniuses. Was pure bull$%it luck!!! LMAO! She did give us high marks for the choice of tunage.

Funny you should mention Calif. Dreamer. I had just picked that up off Napster before it went down. I have it next to Age of Aquarius. I must say one thing about hippies. They weren't right about much, but they sure got the music right!!!!!

not as detectable on the original Rumours CDs but evident on digitally remixed, right before the beginning of the song "The Chain" you can hear Lindsay Buckingham whisper "Oh Phuk".

Didana Ross and the Supremes "No Matter What Sign You are"- on the album, the song litterally drops out as if the master was damaged (crinkled) (when the mastered it for CD, they repoaired it a bit).

A "general" mistake in music...generally giving talentless sexpots and "boy" bands contracts...

The Eight-track...

Sat Jul 14, 2001 1:43 pm

Oh 'Fly...

...I was cleaning out my workshop, and there it is... a genuine 8-track recorder!

On the shelf above the old first-generation stereo open reel deck (Sears Silvertone).

Ooh, eat your heart out!
...three miles from BRONS, clear for the ILS one five approach...

I almost bought a Styx CD this evening at work....

Instead I ended up with a Doctor Demento Set. The 30TH aniversery Collection.

I am listening to Weird Al Yankovic's "Yoda" right now.

It just isn't the same is it?

'All Of My Love' by Led Zep. has the same error in the keyboard solo as the Styx song. Extra key strike.
