Hey Superfly

Sat Jul 14, 2001 10:49 pm

I just got my Teac X-2000R reel to reel on Thursday. Man is that thing sweet! You have GOT to get a hold of one of these. It will fit in nicely along side your A-3340.

And like I also told you, you got to start using those 10" reels!!!!! One 10 inch reel with 3600' of tape will last 96 minutes in one direction! And if you use the X-2000R's reverse feature, then you get 192 minutes, or 3 hours and 12 minutes total at 7 1/2 IPS.

And double those times if you use 3 3/4 IPS.

As soon as I can get a picture of mine, I'll post it, but it's identical to this one:

It goes rather nicely with my other X-1000R's (one of which is now put away) and my Akai GX-635.

My total now is 4 machines:
1 Teac X-2000R

2 Teac X-1000R-both black face models (I used to have three, but I sold one to buy the X-2000R)

1 Akai GX-635 (the rare charcoal grey version. Simply a gorgeous deck)

I really wish someone would bring these babies back into production. Think of what Teac could put out now!!!

Anyone else have a reel to reel and has been quiet about it? Anyone else think they are cool?

I've often wondered about getting hold of one of those. My friend is a real big audiophile and says that R2R absolutely smashes CD/DVD away in terms of sound and 'feel'. But where can you get the reels themselves? I'm quite interested if the sound is better.
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

I don't understand what the fascination is with reels and reel players. Please, enlighten me.

Its better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than be in the air wishing you were on the ground. Fly safe!

You really need to actually listen to one to understand. Only a 'true' music lover has one or at least a high-end turntable. I guess the best analogy I can give is by comparing it to aircrafts.
Reel to Reel = Concorde
LP = 747-400
CD = A319
Cassette = 737
8track = 707

I hope this helps.

Matt D:
That is a cool deck!  Smokin cool
If they can make one that is 4-channel then that will be great. In terms of appearance, I like the chrome face decks better because all of my other components have the chrome face.
My back up reel to reel deck is a TEAC A-2340R. Same as the A-3340 but doesn't hold 10" reels.
How does the sound quality compare to the older decks?
I am a little curious.

Being from the slightly "older generation", I grew up with reel to reel decks in the seventies. They were great. I still have some tapes lying in a cupboard here, but no deck to play them on Crying Maybe one day I'll find one worth buying at Cash Converters.

Matt or Superfly, do they still make music for the reel to reels to play?

To the best of my knowledge, they only made the X-1000 and X-2000 in two channel, quarter track stereo. But both decks were also made in silver.

Akai also made a couple of 10" quad reels. You might want to check out e-bay.
