Your Most Important Year

Tue Aug 14, 2001 3:20 am

Ok folks...new survey....what year was the most important, most influential, or most fondly remembered to you? Sorry but 2001 does not count as the year is not ovetr yet.

For me, 1991 was the most important as far as "firsts" and paving the way for the rest of my life:

I graduated High School (June 17)
I lost my virginity (April 27)
I got my first car (October 30)
I started college (August 19)

Ok...I admit it...I'm bored right about now.

I would have to say that 1999 and 2000 were my most influential years.

1. (1999) I got married to my High School sweetheart.

2. (2000) I had my first child at 18.

Sorry Matt but I have to say 2001

1. I turned 18 (June 30)
2. First trip to Europe (France March 23-Apr 3)
3. Graduated High-school (June 26)
4. Forum for Young Canadians (Ottawa Apr 21-28)
5. My new Car (May 12)
6. Starting University in 2 weeks
7. First girlfriend (somewhat)

My high-school grad was the best night of my life. That alone makes up for all the other crappy events that happen throughout the course of the year.

Did You See That "Metallica" Guy?

Tue Aug 14, 2001 6:14 am

He has Metallica as his user name but doesn't even know when the late Cliff Burton (R.I.P) died. Embarrassment
It was in the morning of September 27th 1986 near the Swedish town of Ljungby  Sad. The other dates are correct though.

~Metallica (the band) rules forever~

1989. That is the year I was hired by the company that I currently work for as an entry-level employee. This company was grown unbelievably and practiced a 'Promote From Within' business model. Moving up since has allowed me to live the 'American Dream*'. Had I not gotten hired with this company, God knows where I would be.

*-To me the American Dream is a comfortable, happy life through work-hard and/or ingenuity. My life may not be the American Dream for most, because I live a comfortable middle-class lifestyle for which I am happy and content. I don't EVER intend to be rich, because I don't have exceptional talents, big-time degrees, rich relatives and absolutely no luck. But since I was brought up just above poverty, what I have is beyond my wildest dreams.

1984 & 1995

Tue Aug 14, 2001 10:15 am

Hard choice. I would pick two years. 1984 & 1995

1984:
Moved from Gary, Indiana (age 12) to Los Angeles, CA. The city was in a rapid decline. Family lost just about everything as the steel industry just about collapsed.
We did pretty well in Southern California. Went to much better schools in Pasadena, Ca and was a much better environment to come up in than Gary, Ind. Three different kids I knew growing in Gary were killed from just random acts of violence that’s all to common in Gary. No telling how I would have turned if we stayed in Gary.

1995:
Me and two other girls I was living with in college (C.S.U.N.) got stoned one night and decided we didn't want to live in Los Angeles anymore. We decided to move to San Francisco, Ca. I chose to transfer to San Francisco State University because Purdue University which I was accepted to wouldn’t give a frikkin' penny in financial aid!  Pissed
We packed all our stuff in a U-Haul truck and moved up with not much money.
It was a good choice because I was able to live in a great city while in school. There is lot's of opportunity here and I am doing something I like and I can maybe afford flight school if I can stay off of ebay and do other things I like to do.
More importantly I m eet my current girlfriend in 1995 although we didn't start dating until 1998. Things are going great! I can’t complain.

This year really sucks so far even though I did get a chance to go to Cuba and go to my 10-year high school reunion.
I'll try to make 2002 much better.
