FYI, here's what America thinks...

Question Wording:

1. How do you rate the way that George W. Bush is performing his job as President?

Excellent - 24%
Good - 28%
Fair - 28%
Poor - 19%
Not sure - 2%

Bush is doing ok........he's no Ronald Reagan, mind you, but he's hanging in there. Up until that little fiasco with supporting affirmative action yesterday. Grrrrrr.. No true Republican would ever support AA... but overall, I'm going with about 90%...

Lol Saloth Star!!!

I think that Bush is in over his head. It was clear on the 20/20 interview that he does not have what it takes to be President. I am upset with his lack of action in the Israel/Palestine crisis. Clinton always found a way to resolve the tentions. Bush doesn't seem to care one bit. As Pat Buchanan said, "The only international experience GWB has ever had was when he went to IHOP."

Hes doing quite well since some people thought it would be the start of world war three.

he may not have a lot of common sense sometimes but hes doing well and at least hes not having affairs.

Hes a water-down right winner who seems to be able to see both sides to arguements.
It is amazing what can be accomplised when nobody takes the credit

For me, it feels almost eerie to watch.

While the (vice) president is occupied gratifying the wealthy and powerful, America´s stance in world affairs is sliding day by day. And that´s not the way it should be.
Bushisms may be funny, but there is work to be done that´s apparently left untended.

We´ve made a similar experience with our own longtime chancellor, conservative Helmut Kohl: While the nation was laughing about his latest stupid statement, the actual work wasn´t done (we´re still trying to recover from his deficit-spending policy) and when he finally left office, his conservative party went down with multiple financing scandals even including allegations of corruption in office.

I sincerely hope that you´ll be spared that experience. The patterns look quite similar. But hopefully not to that extent...

He's no Ronald Reagan: that's probably the best thing anyone has said about the man. I give him about a 5 on a scale of 10. He's no Bill Clinton, either, when it comes to being president, Clinton's major faults notwithstanding.

My God Johan, this board has become a bloody Republican board! Pull the plug, before it's too late.

Now something more serious. Recent studies show that 85% or so of Europeans think Bush is doing bad. A good part of that 85% thrusts Mr. Putin more than they do Bush (I don't blame them). If you don't know who Putin is you must be a) a Republican, b) an American Republican, c) a minor, or d) a minor American Republican.

Come'on you people, Bush is even worse than Reagan and Nancy together!
His environment policy might be good for American Economy, but its bad for MY health, and I don't even life in the US of A (thank God!).

It's great that he is a down to earth president. He makes mistakes that are minor, like in speeches, but it showes that he is a normal kind of laied back type of guy. I like his family, his wife and kids (for once we see a normal teen's life in the white house, and yes, don't piss your pants because alot of teens drink alot!).

I give him a 94%. I do pay taxes, I do work, and I do donate to charity, f.y.i.
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

75%. He stinks on the environmental issues and is on the right but he can see both sides of an issue and take the middle and seems to know what he is doing. He is doing a good job overall in my opinion and I am sure that Gore wouldn't be able to do much better.

Schoenorama, Did the Netherlands or any other European country cast any votes for the American Presidency? No? Then what's the complaining about? Bush is President of the USA, not of the World. His responsibilities are to protect and promote the USA, and if he, or the USA decide to do something to benefit other countries, it is purely a bonus.

Bush isn't a brilliant president. I disagree with him on a number of issues - his missile defence project (not terribly important) and his strong Dollar policy (very important) in particular. But overall I think he is doing a decent job. Far better than Gore would have been anyway.

Metwrench hit upon a good point earlier. The quality of people running for President is getting worse and worse. I can understand this... Why would anyone in his right mind want to take a job dominated by the American press machine, which disects your family's private life in every detail, and the fickle public whose short memories pressure you for instant results without the patience for proper long term policy, all for a salary of a fraction of the salary he could get in private life? Oh, yeah, and add the death threats and having to live with the Secret Service breathing down your neck for the rest of your life.

The benefits of having a top-line guy like Jack Welsh, Lou Gerstner or even a Steve Covey or Bill Gates would be tremendous - people who really know how to manage. The President's job is management, of course. But these guys would be nuts to give up what they have for the thankless job of President. What we are left with are the dregs of society - those people who couldn't get a real job and who love the idea of power.

This of course is not a situation reserved to the USA - all countries have the same problem.

728 - and you have lived so long and grown so wise that I am sure you are highly qualified to run the country aren't you? You can spout what Dan Rather wants you to think but I bet you can't form and defend an honest opinion of your own. Come on, tell me WHY Mr. Bush is an idiot. Any idiot can make a statement like that. I'd like to see you back it up.

Sophie - news flash doll.. most americans don't give a rat's ass what europe thinks about anything. They have enough problems of their own that they shouldn't spend so much time worrying about America. You think Europe is so great? Go give it a try for a while.. you'll come back.

LOT767-300ER: I really dont give a crap what the euros think because hes doing whats good for the states not the euros.

That´s very much the question... Especially in the medium to long term.

LOT767-300ER: Instead of you guys across the pond worrying bout us take a look at your countries and try to improve them.

We´re quite busy doing that, thank you. Big grin

LOT767-300ER: Look at Germanys taxes is that the way we want ours to be?

For some reason probably not yet explained by republican propagandists, we´re still quite competitive. And that´s while we have to integrate a former eastern block country.
Strangely, the sky is still not falling down. We must be doing something right... Big grin

LOT767-300ER: He hasent done anything wrong YET.

We´ll know for sure in a few years. He´s looking a little like a fond manager who´s busily buying .com stocks because he didn´t get the news, yet...
(Spending the surplus to the wealthy? Steering to even higher pollution? Breaking international treaties? Abandoning Kyoto? The list goes on...)
