Hard Rock Cafe

Sun Aug 19, 2001 6:01 am

Well, here in Pittsburgh we are FINALLY getting a HRC open by next summer.  Smile I was just wondering what your opinions are of the place? Do you find it to be an overpriced, loud, and cheesy place to eat or do you find it to be a fun, cool atmosphere with good food like I do? I never liked Planet Hollywood because it's food was WAY overpriced and sucked anyways. I am glad that they are bankrupt.

Also, which HRC's have you been to?
My list:
Orlando (both old and new)
Myrtle Beach
Atlanta
Toronto Sky Dome
Niagara Falls (both Canadian and American ones)
Honolulu
Maui (This HRC was SMALL!)

London and Bangkok. They are very cheesy IMHO. I would rather eat food that doesn't come with fries if you get my drift.

I went to the one in Vegas a few years ago (didn't go this time). I think I'd rather spend my time elsewhere... I'm not really into that kinda thing.

I went to the Hard Rock cafe in Barcelona, which was very nice, and although overpriced, the food was good value for your money.

I've also been to the Planet Hollywood in Paris on the Champs Ellysee. That was also very nice.

I' ve been to the ones in Los Angeles and Tokyo but it was mainly for getting some HRC-T-shirts for a work-colleague who collected them.

I stayed in there for a while by the occasion but I was not particulary impressed.

I worked at the Hard Rock Cafe here in San Francisco about 5 years ago for only a couple of months.
To be honest with you, it's just a Denny's with a lot of artifacts. It's all for show and a tourist attraction. The food isn't that great at all. It is waaaaaaaay over priced and the drinks are watered down.

All I have to show for working there is a t-shirt.  Sad

HRC at SkyDome in Toronto is a little bit different from other ones. It offers inside view of SkyDome, which can be spectacular to a tourist. For people who can't afford to go for a tour inside, it's a great alternative.
But IMO, HRC is just another overpriced (and well recognized) cafe to extort money from tourists. I don't even go there even when I get free food/discounts.

Cheesy places. Why visit a HRC when they are all over when you can visit the real authentic resturants of the city you visit? The HRC's are basicly all the same! Same food, same crap.

Just my opinion.
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

Ooh, this is a disturbing trend, but Superfly nailed it. HRC (whether it be Dallas or, well, any of those other locales you have all mentioned) is bland sameness.

I have gone to the one here in Big D a few times, to meet friends from out of town who wanted to go there (like it's a Dallas institution? Just by putting an oil well pumpjack outside?). Only time I went which I considered worthwhile, was a coupla years ago on Elvis' birthday- they had an Elvis impersonator contest which was a hoot.

I avoid HRC when I travel for the same reason I avoid McDonald's or Burger King (the "BK Lounge")- if I wanted those places, I coulda stayed home.

PIT_flyer007, of course it isn't going downtown, we wouldn't want to spice things up any down there. It is going in this huge new development across the Mon. in Station Square. There is gonna be a bunch of restaurants and *gasp* nightlife along with some docks on the river. That is gonna be nice because the only place I can currently hook up downtown with my Jetskiis is the Point or PNC Park.

For all of you who say it is nothing more than a tourist destination, well duhhh thats what it is. It is just a familiar place to eat with each one having a very unique design. The food is nothing specatular, you are right, but it is still good and well above a Denny's! For example, if you go to china for two weeks, would you want chinese food every day! It just presents another dining alternative for everyone. It is not a place to go to everynight. You must be in the right mood to go there. I understand some people have a love/hate relationship with the place, so I am not gonna bash you if you absolutely cant stand it. We all have our own opinion.

As for my favorites, I love the Myrtle Beach pyramid (unless of course you are stuck in a back room, one time I was stuck under Madonna's bra in the back room and EVERYONE was taking pictures of me under it). The Sky Dome is also a very unique idea. I liked having the opportunity to see the Sky Dome on a little one day trip I made to Toronto. The one I hate the most is the Canadian Niagara Falls one. It was like the place was built in a hallway.

Wow, they're putting it on the south side. With the new addition of the Waterfront, I bet one day not long from now it will be shopping centers and new developments from Homestead all the way to Station Square.

but it's all good though!!!

PS the one in Baltimore sucked. the one in DC is cool, it even has the sax Clinton played while in office. I think at his inauguration or suttin.  Laugh out loud

I went into one in CA (San Fransisco I think???) when I was about 12 to buy a shirt because EVERYBODY had one. I've never been to the one here. I've had friends who worked there who said it was really touristy. I'm not sure what the big attraction really is.
