A recent poll in the UK showed that 75% of people could not give a flying one about these 'Loyalists'.
Not surprising, 'we're British' they yell, oh really?
Fanatics in both politics and faith, with those wierd 'Orange Lodge' marches, bowlers hats, sashes and an obsession with events hundreds of years ago. Bit like the Klu-Klux-Klan, wearing 'Clockwork Orange' style clothes.
You could not get more un-British!
'But we fought for Britain in the war', yes like all Commonwealth nations.
It might be that this situation is payback for the security forces stopping the Orange Lodge, and their violent supporters. marching through a Catholic area for the last few years.
The vicious IRA campaign which really started in 1971, obscures the fact that British troops were sent to Belfast and Londonderry in 1969 to stop the sectarian strife, which culminated in Loyalist gangs burning Catholics out of their homes. Today we would call that ethnic cleansing.
For 40 years the Loyalists were allowed to run a province which was a European version of the US segregated Southern states, the nationalists, then making up 30% of the population, being treated much like
coloured population in the deep south.
In fact, the civil rights protests that started the troubles in 1968, were modelled on Martin Luther-King's fight for civil rights.
So no surprise that the rest of the UK, apart from some in Scotland and a few far-right nutcases, are totally fed-up with them.
True, the other side, using Sinn Fienn, are manipulating the dreadful situation with those schoolkids for polictical capital.
