Will The New WTC Be As Tall As It Was? Or Taller?

Sat Sep 15, 2001 12:11 pm

Hey guys! Smile

I have just heard from a friend that the owner of World Trade Center have decided that they will not build the new World Trade Center as tall as it used to be. Since not many firms are willing to become its tenant again.

Actually, I believe World Trade Center MUST be build as it used to be, ie: as tall as it was......... IF NOT EVEN BETTER AND TALLER!

Comments?

Do you guys think WTC 2 will be shorter than it used to be?

My own preference would be for an exact duplicate of the former one...but I think it would be difficult to find tennants.

Here's how I think the new World Trade Center should look:

This was just sent to me in an e-mail by a friend. At first, I didn't "get it", but then I saw how the new building kind of looks like someone's hand.

I would love to see WTC II built. My opinion would be to design it as close to WTC 1 as possible.

So... you want to see the attack again?

My idea: no more twin tower but a lone tower with same exterior design and bigger floor area "for better center of gravity" - also 119 floors for Sep 11.

I am in all favor of it being built, but I think they should make it a few stories shorter and have wider escalators and stairs(like 4-6 abreast on the stairs). And have everything in the building be a lot stronger.

Remember everyone, the previous buildings were incredibly strong and withstood the impacts. However, because of the massive amount of jet fuel feeding the fires, the steel reinforcing rods weakened triggering the collapse. Any new building will need to have massive new fire containment systems.

Hey, the WTC stood strong in bin Laden's first attack in 1993 so that is why bin Laden went after it again, except this time he was successful in destroying it. Rebuild it to its original form and make it a little stronger but change nothing else that would affect its appearance. We need to send those terrorists a message that the beautiful buildings can never be erased from the world.

In my opinion, the EXACT copy should be rebuilt, as a strong message and also to restore New York's skyline. If Big Apple's unique esthetic remained altered forever, it would be a further victory for these evil forces.
And also, I must say that for me these towers were among the most beautiful architectural achievements in the world. What an elegance!

If they things about shorter WTC, why not to build one tower, but, for example, 140 floors (instead of 2 70-floors), etc.

I think they should build it exactly as it was..or maybe even taller, so it could be the tallest building in the world as the old ones once were for a while. as far as terrorists attacking it again..there are still plenty of buildings and nationally significant for them to attack w/o the wtc..the empire state, statue of liberty, sears tower, etc. i dont think a new wtc would be at any greater risk then any of those buildings.

Why not? I am sure they will build something exactly the same as it was IF NOT better and taller.

Unfortunately I already saw a news report saying the owner of the 99-year lease on the World Trade Center will rebuilt the towers, but they will not be built to exact replicas.

I agree, because even when they are re-built, a dark reminder will always exist when you look at them. The new building(s) should be taller, and be better than the originals, yet a resemblance should be kept ie two square towers, but maybe make them off a glass versus steel exterior. Either way, it has to be great.

I heard on the news I think it was, that they do have plans to rebuild, but not as tall unfortunately.

What I Was Laughing At...

Mon Sep 17, 2001 3:42 pm

United Airline, I was laughing at the design of the new WTC which looks like a giant hand flipping the bird.

Seriously, I don't know about building taller towers. The ones that were destroyed were tall enough. I think it's a matter of creating a building which serves the same purpose, yet is functional and built to stricter codes and standards.

Does anyone know how many years it would take to construct a 100 + storey skyscraper? How long did it take to build the original WTC?

Another thought...I don't see how the new WTC can be built on the same site as the old. It seems a bit much, despite the high value of real estate in downtown Manhattan.

It took a year and 45 days for Empire State back then.

What about building something similar to the Patronous Twin Tower Kuala Lumpur, but TALLER?

NO What a horrible idea!! The Kuala Lumpur twin towers are impressive, but they have something kitshy and they wouldn't fit AT ALL in New York!
The WTC was a high class realisation. I'd like to see "them" back, but I don't actually think this will ever happen, for many reasons. One of these is that many people will protest against seeing the same towers at the same place, fearing that it would be psychologically too difficult; and I could very well understand that point. Another question is wether there would be a great demand for offices being replicas of those in which so many lives were abominably annihilated.

It will be a long, complex and passionate debate.
But I feel it's anyway too early to start it.

Toda,Reisinger:

Sorry about that. I am just asking whether or not it is a good idea. I somewhat think that the Twin Tower is also a high class building.

But anyway, I would love to see something as good if not better, taller, as well as of the same level of class.

Regards.
