Mika Hakkinen To "Take A Break From Racing"

Sun Sep 16, 2001 8:03 am

Yesterday, Mika Hakkinen has announced that he is to "take a break from racing" for the 2002 season. The move is apparently influenced by the fact that he wants to spend more time with his family. The two time Formula 1 world champion will be replaced by the sensational Kimi Raikkonen. The young Finn is rumoured to be under a long-term contract with Mclaren.
Hakkinen has qualified in the 7th spot for tomorrow's Italian GP, after suffering a major crash during the qualifying session.

Do you think Hakkinen will really return to racing in 2003, as his press release implies?

I supposed one could say that he's been "taking a break from racing" since the start of this season!  Smile

My guess is that he'll not return to F1.

Kimi Raikkonen in a McLaren? Oh boy! That's GREAT news.

Kimi Raikkonen???  Big thumbs up

Yay... I read about him in the Finnair "Blue Wings" inflight magazine this summer while flying to Finland. Good luck to him. Too bad Mika's taking a break... he possibly might be back, but you never know.

Mika won't return. I mean, who here really believe he's gonna return?

Also I'd like to add that this is excellent news. Seeing Mika losing everything, Michael winning everything, Mika quitting....ahh....this has been my favorite season ever. Though I'm not even interested in F1 :P
