Sedition In Press?

Thu Sep 20, 2001 3:56 pm

Here in Germany is a Newspaper called Bildzeitung. Equal to the Sun or the Worldnews Weekly (or how it is named). In the Bildzeitung you can read about Afghanistan as the Land of Darkness.
This sounds to me like sedition and I want to know what is written in other countrys and what do yu think about this.

Sounds like the press in the US.

I think it is sick!
Our press and text books in school says the same thing about the Middle East and Africa.

Alternative media is usually the best source of information.

Superfly, are you serious about the school-books? (I don't know, and you've just been voted as the funniest member of this forum...)

Eurotamandua:
My last post was serious.
As far as our mis-eduactional system, it's quite obvious. Look at our President and the many obnoxious Americans that visit your country in the summer.
Need I say more?

As for being voted the funniest member, I do know when to be serious as well.

Superfly,
I did'nt intend to insult you. (I just really was'nt sure...)

But what is the need of bringing children to belive, that some countrys are bad by nature? (Perhaps this is a silly question, because so many countrys do... Not long ago I've seen in TV how palestine children learn english sentences like "The army of israel killed my school-mate" in school.) I did'nt expect things like that in USA...

What press are you reading? Perhaps the papers in San Francisco have changed a great deal since I was there, but I am not aware of any mainstream press here in the US that attempts to portray the Middle East or Africa as "bad" places.

I agree that the "alternative" press is a valuable resource, especially in these days of the decline and fall of the two-newspaper town, but you should apply the "grain of salt test" to all press, regardless of whether they are "mainstream," or "alternative."

Besides all of which, many of the "alternative" papers are now part of rather large and successful conglomerates, themselves, calling their vaunted independence into question.

I'd suggest that a country where you can be put to death because of your religious belief, your attire or your opinion is a pretty dark place.

I'd suggest a country that forces 1/2 of their population to be completely covered from head to foot regardless of the temperature and to be completely uneducated, relegated to the role of slave a pretty dark place.

I'd suggest that people who deliberately sever the nerves that control the ability to achieve sexual satisfaction are most definitely pretty awful and ignorant people.

Decide for yourselves ...
