Johan, Why No Delete Post Vote?

Wed Sep 26, 2001 12:49 pm

Johan,

I think adding an availible option for voting to delete posts would be a great to have. I know we alreayd have a "Suggest Deletion" option, but I don't think it does anything but let you know of the problem and make you have to deal with it. So, I think that after a certain post has been voted by a certain # of times to be deleted, then it would then be gone. So, you wouldn't have to keep checking for posts that you know will cause trouble. Also, make it so that you can only vote once like the rating system. If this doesn't work out and people are complaining about their posts being deleted, than you can just take it off, but shouldn't we try it? I also think a post should have quite a reasonable # of deletions voted before it is automatically deleted.

What do you think?

(It would be great for us to be able to get rid of posts like these before they start real trouble:

Boeing vs. Airbus (of course)
Why isn't the XXXX succesful?
etc.
etc.)

Problem with that idea is that good posts can be deleted by people who have little interest other than causing trouble. Or say for example user X doesn't like user Y, so every time X sees Y's posting, he votes for it to be deleted.

Very good point CPDC10-30. But if User X hates user Y, they can only vote once, and their post wouldn't end up being deleted. The problem of users not taking any interest is also one I didn' think of, I wonder about that one.

BTW, nice to talk to you again, this is ex-Boeing747-400. I updated my respected userlist so it still has you in it.

Best Regards,

Perhaps Johan should get a neutral person to be a moderator, helping to lift the workload off Gary.

With "democratic censorship" some idiot with multiple accounts could still make trouble.
