Actually this is a question that I have over time put considerable thought into. Airbus380, this should give you some idea as to why you should value your parents more.
If I found out today that my parents were gone my life would be in disarray. While I no longer depend on them for much financial support I still depend on them greatly for many other things. My parents are the ones who made me who I am today. They are the ones who motavated me to do well in school. They are the ones who helped build my sense of self and my sense of right and wrong. They are, to a large extent, still my connection to a larger world that is still alien to me. What I am saying is that they are a part of me. When they are gone I will lose that part of me (metaphorically speaking), hopefully which I will be able to replace with what they have given to me.
I would be lost. Despite having friends that are much closer, physically and emotionally, than my parents... they provide much of my direction and sense of self.
My life would be disrupted. I would have to deal with not only the emotionally tradegy of it all, but have to deal with the stark reality of trying to bring their lives to a close. Something as a 21 year-old that I willingly admit I am not ready to do.
So heed my words and those of FlagshipAZ... without your parents life wouldn't be nothing but playing Playstation and flying all the time..... it would be very different.
