Two years later, I was in a traffic accident and when the cops checked my record they said there was an outstanding warrant for my arrest because I never paid that ticket. This was late one Sunday night and I had to be at work the next morning, so I called some friends of mine, who happened to be coworkers to come bail me out. They had to take me home so I could get some clothes to wear to work the next day and I ended up spending the night at their house, because my car was wrecked and had been towed from the scene.
The next day, I went to our Records and Information Department, got a copy of the original money order and sent it off to the company. They researched it and said it had never cleared, so it must have been lost in the mail and I ended up getting a refund.
What a hassle, though. Everyone at work (including my boss) heard about it and called me "jailbird" after that.
