Attention Boat Owners!

Thu Oct 04, 2001 12:16 pm

Hello! I have a question which I can't find the answer to on the wonderful Internet (somehow that happens a lot). I'm curious as to how much it would cost to rent a boat slip (or whatever they're called) in a harbor in Chicago... if you have any information or know where I can find any, please let me know!!!

Thank you very much!

Yeah, preferably in Chicago Harbor or a near-downtown harbor.

747-600X,

The price depends on the size of boat and type of mooring. The best way to find out exact prices is to call the Chicago Park District (they, along with Westrec Marinas, manage all 9 harbors in Chicago).

You can get a "can" (basically a bouy in the middle of the harbor) for around $800. I believe slips are charged by the length of the boat.

Hmmm... is that $800 good for a year or a month (or just one season, given that January really isn't boating weather in Chicago). Also, do you have a number for the Park District (or Westrec)? I'm at school so I don't have any phone books around... I could look when I get home but if you have a number or EMail I'd appreciate it a lot!

Thanks again,

$800 is for the season (May-Oct) and is a great deal. The downside with a "can" is that you don't get power or freshwater hookups and you need to buy a dinghy to be able to get to your slip.

The Chicago Park District number is 312-742-PLAY.
