I have always had this annoying thing of feeling most awake at 9:00pm at night, even if I have been feeling tired that day..
Some things that I do: listen to audiobooks, read, listen to music, make lists!, watch any aircraft that may be flying past, look at the moon and stars, don't worry..
There are also things you can do before you retire: take a herbal sedative tablet like Valerian (not drugs), have a small glass of wine, listen to soothing music, do some relaxation exercises.
Don't drink caffeine after (say) 8:00pm.
If all else fails? Make a point of closing your eyes, and not opening them (I'm being serious).
