DB5ZM here. It´s been a while, though, that I´ve been "radio-active". Wink/being sarcastic

My condolences, and good luck to you!

I almost got my technician class license last year but I didn't have the money for new equipment. Oh well.

KB7DWE-- what repeater are you usually on?! Not the Boeing (K7NWS--145.33) one up on Tiger Mountain by any chance? I mostly listen to K7NWS. Listening now, in fact...its the discussion on solar activity (network-- with Oregon and E Washington I believe). KB7IPJ (Mel-- I think hes on the Peninsula) is the most familiar voice at the moment.

Nothing wrong with 2-meter! Doesn't go too far, but still... Big grin

Thanks guys for the response. My dad keeps telling me there are alot of HAM's out there but i didn't realize id get this many just fromt his site alone. Anyways im from PIT and my dad is WJ3X (he;s never on hehe) If and when i get my license i'll post it. We used to have a repeater out of my house but that was back a while (probably 5 or 6 years when my dad actually got on) Anyways Thanks!

What do HAM's discuss when on the air?

Although I love broadcasting and music and such, I never really grasped the HAM concept.

can someone please enlighten me?

Used to operate ZL3THR but no longer keep my station license active. Just 50MHz & above as I never could get motivated to learn morse!

Matt D - hard to explain really. When I was on, it was before cellular networks were on air here, so there was something cool about keeping in touch with friends when mobile. We even built our own telephone interconnect, which worked surprisingly well. Also went a bit further than the average ham & built a repeater on a hill. Learned a lot about antenna systems, radiation patterns, coverage etc. So, it was a good environment to learn a hell of a lot in a practical way (trial & error) without having to learn everything from books. My interest in ham radio lead to a career with a local electronics company and then to my own high tech companies.
