People Who Talk Loud

Mon Oct 15, 2001 4:08 pm

Is it me, or do peole who talk loud GET ON MY LAST NERVE! ! ! !  Pissed

This is just an observation I've made and I just want to get it off of my chest.
This goes across all backgrounds, socieo-economic backgrounds, race, age, sex, religion and sexual orientation.
Loud people really get on my nerves! Many loud mouths don't even realize that they are loud.
I am sure we all have/had a co-worker, classmate, roomate or just someone in passing that just don't know how to talk at a reasonable volume.
What can be done about this?
What is there problem?

I'd just thought I'd share that with you.

I agree Superfly. They really piss me off, expecially when your trying to carry on a civilised conversation with somebody, and these loudmouths don't let you talk properly because they are drowning out your own properly volumed conversation.

Me too you guys, when they talk it's like someone is shoving Q-tips into your ears. What usually goes along with people who talk loud is the fact that they have bad breath and that is what makes me turn away.

If they ask, out of respect I say, "uh, neck cramps"

Yeah, I'm sure we've all experienced it at some stage. I don't like loud people or those who talk right into my face!! I'm not a loud person generally, and so I'm sensitive to it. ..and then those who talk non-stop then walk away before you have a chance to say anything!! Sad I know we've all got our faults, ..but my 2c OK.

Being an American in Europe for 9 months, you do not even realize how loud Americans are until you're in Europe. Now, I cringe when Americans are engaged in conversation and you can hear the whole thing from across the restaurant, bar etc. In a city like Paris, you can really tell who the Western tourists are. Just my personal experience.

Yes, Americans are loud. I'm not being criticial at all but yes they to tend to be heard over everyone else in public. When I was at LGW the first person I spoke to was an American, or rather they spoke to me. Recently I met two Americans here in Australia, and she spoke very LOUD.

'Fly, this has been one of the challenges of my life- to (1) speak more softly, and (2) to speak less frequently.

I have had reasonable success in both, and I have found that, when a point needs emphasis, sometimes a lowered voice can create increased interest... sort of an "intimacy of thought" kind of thing.

Similarly, a stretegically-placed silence can "speak" volumes, with far less noise and much greater eloquence than a lengthy explanation or declaration.

My bitch of a neighbour is loud. She yells at her feeble husband and he just says yes ma'm, no ma'm, three bags full ma'm. I don't take any shit from her and have used the "F" word on her more than once. Today I was going to launch some hellfire missiles over the wall because of their dog that compromises my peace and tranquility. However, other matters took preference and we had a ceasefire in operation today.

I have noticed the loudest ones are the ones with the biggest egos. The ones that NEED to let EVERYONE know they are there. I've also found, in men, they are the ones that drive tricked out cars, play loud music, have small cell phones and have small...... um..... you know......
One time, I was taking the ferry from Seattle to Bremerton. It was a sunny Sunday. There were about 20 of us waiting to walk on. One woman bought her ticket and spoke with a few people in the waiting area. Nice, quiet, polite tone. Then she got on her cell phone. "HELLO? YES! I AM WAITING FOR THE FERRY! YES I AM IN SEATTLE! I'LL BE THERE IN ABOUT AN HOUR! I'LL CALL YOU FROM MY CELL PHONE WHEN I GET THERE! BYE!" Resume normal tone.
People bother me.....

Why not just ask them to speek softly.
Pull them aside, then ask "Can I honestly tell you someting?"

If they say yes...

Say "You kind of talk rather loud. I just wanted to tell you before people get turned off by it."

And if they are a true friend who vailids your opinion, then they will thank you.
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

EVERYBODY, PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT I HAVE TO SAY, YA KNOW!!!

I'm more of a fast than a loud talker. Then again, I'm American. In America, you have to speak up to be heard over the other loudmouths  Pissed . The people who are really loud are the valley girls and others of that type.

On the bus:
*ring* *ring*
"Hello?... Oh hi there, it's you!... Yeah, I was just about going to phone you... thanks for calling me..."
This mobile conversation is usually very loud.
I'm not a loud person when I meet new people, I hardly do talk to anyone I don't know. But once I get used to ppl I talk. Not very loud though. Here in Malta many people, especially middle-aged housewives are usually very loud.

I especially like the skanky female types that screech obscenities at their husbands and children at shopping malls and bus stops. (Usually pushing a pram, bottle blonde and a fag hanging out of the corner of their mouth.)

If some1 is talking loud, usually they are having a battle to raise their voice above some1 elses. The other person will raise theirs and before you know it - you have a full raging person who decides to protest against it here in airliners.net!

Hey Superfly,

I can't stand them either!! They sometimes make me wish I had a 44 Magnum on me (an unlikely possibility in the UK, boo hoo!!  Crying ).

For me, the problem is aggravated because I have hypersensitive hearing that goes partway into the ultrasonic. It's great for editing music recordings, but it is a pain in the ass when trying to concentrate on something and I can hear the shrill pitch of an electrical appliance in the background. Likewise, when I'm trying to have a civilized conversation, and others are raising their voices around me I start thinking 'sensory overload...sensory overload...eject,eject,eject!!' Grrrrrrrrrrr........  Pissed  Nuts  Nuts

Peace and tranquility is a bit of a rare commodity these days, especially if you live in a city. Time to get that intercom and noise attenuating headset into the office  Big thumbs up

If you made your money by making your voice heard over jet engines running you might pick up a few quirks too.

My favorite are Americans who believe that if you speak louder and slower, the non-English Speaker on the other side of the conversation will understand what they are saying…
