I haven't regularly watched the Simpsons in 8 years, but I enjoy watching them form time to time.

I watch the old reruns sometimes, they are usually funnier than the new ones. As for where I would be, probably the same place just a litttle smarter. All them hours of neglected school work when I was a little younger must have cost me something, lol. Smile/happy/getting dizzy

I might have learned how to spell "little." Big grin

True, but I was talking about the worhtless stuff you are supposed to know while you are in school and forget when you get out. Not the stuff that might actually come in handy, like asking for Amanda Hugginkiss. Laugh out loud

... or Hugh Jass, Oliver Clothesoff, Maya Buttreeks, I.P. Freely, Al Coholic, Jacques Trap, Mike Rotch, Seymour Butz, Amanda Huggenkiss, Mike Hawk & his brotha Mike Hunt.

This is what I miss most about living in Vienna, I don't get the Simpsons in English. The German version sucks; all the characters have wierd voices that don't match their personalities. And they call Homer "Humer". Ugh.... I'm thinking of realigning my satellite dish to Sweden where they get the original programming.

Alas, I've been reduced to downloading Divx files of the Simpsons over the internet. I've bought whatever tapes they have at Virgin Megastore, but besides that, whenever I go back to NY, I spend a few hours vegging out on reruns.

My only gripe, I don't like the newer episodes all that much. They seem to be running out of funny ideas, and Homer's just getting unbearably obnoxious. I'd say their glory years were between 1994-1996, I guess when Conan O'Brian was still writer/producer.

KWIJYBOH... a fat, balding North American ape!

I would be NOWHERE without the Simpsons. And I'm serious!

I fanatically bought the first Simpsons DVD too.

What a stunning creation. When people over here (UK / Europe) diss US mass culture as inferior to their own I just think of The Simpsons (and The Larry Sanders Show) and I know how wrong they are. I don't want to stress what is already such a cliche but the intelligence and observation in these shows (especially screenplay) is breathtaking. I'm pretty against US foreign policy and other things, the US is such an easy target for criticism, much of it justified. But no other country could produce work like this.

So where would I be without the Simpsons (and Larry)? A bitter anti-American arsehole. However one mention of Bart and Lisa or Larry Hank and Artie and I'm foaming at the mouth with awe. All hail America.

I agree about the writers/producers running out of ideas, the episodes just keep getting wackier and wackier, and its quite hard to fill all these hours of great programming with new and innovative humour!

The Simpsons is great, i have watched most of the episodes and thanks to Sky One and BBC2 i have seen most about 5 or 6 times  Big grin

My life would be incomplete without the Simpsons. I hate the first two seasons, the newest ones are the best though.

Simpsons have no effect on my life whatsoever - never watched them, never will. Beavis and Butthead is a whole other topic.  Big grin

The Simpsons rule and so do Beavis and Butthead. You can't completely compare them. The Simpsons are really great, funny, intelligent and very, very satirical while B&B sometimes is a little stupid.

I was virtually brought up with the Simpsons, since I was 11 until now. I still watch the re-runs that come on twice a day!

The simpsons is great because everytime you watch it, you always can find anouther gag in it... they put so much detail into the writing it is fantastic..

The good thing is here in Australia during the week they show upto 6 episodes a day (on 2 different channels) and on weekends they show 3 hours of simpsons each day.

Its really good because every 4 or 5 months they have gone through the library and you get to see the really good episodes where smithers was black, and bart was called bort!

And Hepkat... i agree, Conan Obrien was the best thing that happened to the simpsons, he is the writer of the best episode ever... Marge Vs the Monorail (which i can quote off by heart, all 23 mintues... i should get out more)

"simpson, homer simpson, hes the greatest guy in history, from the town of springfield, hes about to hit a chestnut tree."

and another classic quote from it

"TV:are you on your third beer of the evening?... Homer: does whisky count as beer?"

"solar power... when will people learn"

"Leornad Nimoy:a solar eclipse, the cosmic ballet goes on..... Guy beside him: does anyone want to switch seats?"

Oh i could go on for ages... but thats enough for now

Paul

(one more.... Homer: yes son, im the best monothingy guy there ever was)

Bobsmuggle, you're kidding me! EVERYONE knows the best episode is King-Size Homer, when he decides to gain 60 pounds to go on disability. I don't even want to go into, I'd just start laughing myself silly!

(Homer in the ice cream truck: "mm... oh, raspberry....mmm....)

The Homer vs NY episode is mostly set at the WTC, Barney borrows Homer's car and a few months later they get a parking ticket, "Your car is parked at One World Trade Centre Plaza." So they go to NY (Bart: "How come we had to change in Atlanta twice?") and the car is there between the towers with the windscreen buried in parking tickets. Homer has to wait all day for the guy to remove the clamp on the wheel, drinks loads of crab juice, needs to go to the loo, is told the only toilets are at the top, he goes up one tower, toilet out of order, goes up the other, and while he's up there he sees the parking warden give him another ticket. "D'oh!!" echoes throughout Manhattan. Meanwhile Marge and Lisa go to a musical, "Kicking It - A Musical Journey Through The Betty Ford Centre" (judge on stage, singing: "We should put you away / Where you can't kill or maim us / But this is LA / And you're rich and famous..."). Various other stuff happens, Homer eventually drives away with the clamp still on the wheel.

One of the funniest, gag-filled episodes ever. Very sorry to see it gone. Best episode ever: "Homey The Clown".

the simpson's is at the center of my life!!! i can go on for hours quoting the show. the writers are so briliant!!! i must say that it took a few seasons for the show to get into its prime, and the last several seasons haven't been the best since the show is, unfortunately, running out of ideas. but i can watch the reruns and never get sick of the show. 777kicksass is right, i have no idea where i'd be without them.
