>>Duh? No. The capital city of the US is Washington. Washington is in the District of Columbia. Its just like writing Arlington, VA. <<
Uhhh....you're being sarcastic right? Where the hell did you get that from and what teacher on crack taught you such a thing?
The City of Washington is synonymous with the "District of Columbia." "Washington" IS NOT a "section" of the Distrcit of Columbia, because it IS the "District of Columbia." It's completely different than writing "Arlington, VA."
But nonetheless, I'm suuurrrrreeeee you were just joking N400. (And if you wasn't I suggest you save face and say you were.)
Americans already are embarrassingly ignorant about geography, especially our OWN geography.
If you look at the history of the District of Columbia, you will see that it refers to the City of Washington in the District of Columbia. The district used to include The County of Washington, Alexandria, Alexandria County, Georgetown and the City of Washington. In 1846 the Virginia portion was returned to the State of Virgina.
At its orgin, it was the city of Washington, in the District of Columbia. I believe it is still that way at present except that now the borders of the city and the district are the same.

Petertenthije - i am pretty sure the Den Haag is just the parliamentary/Adminstrative capital, and the Monarch, but Amsterdam is the true/trade/buisness capital. Although i'd rather it was Den Haag caus its closer to my dads house
Jj: the capital of Andorra being La Valletta? I really don't think so; living in Malta and being a citizenship I'm pretty sure it's the capital of Malta...
Anyway, drop the bloody La, that's an Italianism. And mind your spelling, it's spelled Valletta, double l double t.
