Israeli Soccer Going Up?

Sun Dec 02, 2001 3:23 am

In the last year, Israeli soccer has gone up. The level of games in the Israeli Superleague has gone up! Haim Revivo is dominating Fenerbahche in Turkey, Eyal Berkovic is doing okay in Manchester City, Tal Banin is doing okay in his team in the Premier League (I forgot  Sad ) . Hapoel Tel Aviv (I hate them) beat Chelsea once and tied them once, then they beat Locomotive Moscow just last week! Has Israeli Soccer gone up? They almost got to the World Cup this year, if it wasn't for those Austrian Nazis (just kidding, good game guys  Big thumbs up ) . What do you guys think?

You might not like them but the Hapoel Tel Aviv game against Chelsea was fabulous. There was a strong feeling here that Chelsea got exactly what they deserved out of that game.

By the way, is it true that Israel play in the European zone for World Cups etc because the middle east countries refuse to play them?

Yes, it's true. But it's complicated. You see, this rule was made about 25 years ago, maybe more. That's when NO arab country had peace with Israel, so Israel became part of the UEFA qualifying. I mean, do you think our friend sadam would let israelis in OR out of Iraq??? Anyways, yes they play in Europe!

Used to be in the Oceania group, long trips I guess.
As for Iraq, some countries refuse to play in Baghdad,
so they play on a neutral place the problem is that Iraq don´t recognize Israel. As for the quality of Israeli soccer, well, the immigration of Russians would sure help
the league....
