Urgent -- Prayer Request

Tue Dec 04, 2001 5:12 am

If you wish to join in, I know there are people here who lift up prayers:

My cousin Janine has given birth to a premature (28-29 weeks' gestation) girl.

Erika weighed 2 lbs. 6 oz. at birth and seems to be doing well for her level of development. She is the neonatal intensive care unit.

Please lift up Janine, Gregg (Janine's husband and Erika's father), and Erika in your prayers.

Thanks,
Elizabeth aka redngold

Redngold, I'm sure the young'n is in good hands. I'm 2-for-2 having kids in NICU, so I know the feeling!!! We spent days on end in there with both kids. Devin was born in shock with the cord around neck. They had to bag him for several minutes until they finally revived him. He spend a few weeks in NICU weening him off of oxygen. When Mollie was born, we had a subdural hemotoma. Her brain was bleeding. She had 7 seizures on her birthday. When she seized, she went into respiratory arrest and they had to revive her each time. She spent a while in there as well. But both turned out wonderfully. Babies are amazing, and so are NICU staffers!!! God Bless!!!

Elizabeth I truly admire you for putting out your request here. There are many who may feel that "we" would look at them in an unusual way. But not me. I want you to know that I have asked our Lord for help for Erika. This precious little package needs help from all she can receive it from. I will continue to pray for her, please let us know her progress.

I did check out your other info and once again I say I am quite inpressed. The only question I have is what denomination are you a part of? Is it back with the Lutheran Church(me and my family are Missouri Synod) or someone else? Just curious.

RednGold-

My prayers are with Janine, Gregg and (most of all) Erika.

I, too, am a parent of an early-arrival NICU-veteran, and now Tomster the monster is 6 years old and good (played hockey tonight). And I'll second JetService's comments- the NICU people are a special breed, caring with skill and compassion for the children, and forthe parents.

With a family's love, and the prayers of many, there's no limit. God bless.

Will do. I know somebody who had her son at about the same time during her pregnancy because his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck and she had to have a C-section. She is now mother to a healthy child as I'm sure your cousin will be.

Thanks again to all of you. No updates yet, however I have the sense that our prayers are working. Most of all "God's will be done."

RednGold; I pray that the baby will recover and years from now she'll thank god greatly for the miracle. Her family wil be the proud parents and grandparents of a girl who will bring a lifetime of joy. God bless them all.

Thank you for sharing your story;

If you belive that praying to a god will help out the premature kid, why wouldn't that same god prevent that little kid from being born premature in the first place? Looks like his mind is made up if you asked me.

YKA -- God's miracles come in many different ways. It is a miracle that Erika was born. She was preceded by two stillborn brothers. I thank God for the miracle of life in whatever form it has been given.

Peace,

Update On Erika

Wed Dec 05, 2001 6:46 am

Good news! All of your prayers have really been helping. Erika is now 2 lbs. 11 oz. and 15 inches long. She is breathing on her own with a little bit of positive pressure oxygen, not on a ventilator but she still needs the apnea "I forgot to breathe" monitor. She is very strong for her age, according to her doctor and the NICU staff.

Janine is still in the hospital. I'm not sure when she's going to go home.

Please continue your prayers! It's working!

Thanks,
Elizabeth

Redngold:

I'm in Singapore and was born premature in 1982 after only 28 weeks in my mum's womb. My chances of survival were only 50%. And bear in mind that medical care in 1982 was a far cry from medical care today. However, I have grown up to be a perfectly normal human being, and am now 19 years old, pursuing an engineering degree. I am free of any disabilities whatsoever. In fact, I was 1.5kg when I was born. They say that but today I am 1.76m tall and 70kg. So yeah, I'm taller than many who had a normal birth.

The doctors did say that there was a chance I would be blind, deaf or have some physical disability but I have none of those. I went swimming last week and am going hiking in New Zealand the week after.

The bottom line is: I AM PERFECTLY NORMAL! And I thank god for that. I'm sure God will take care of Janine, Gregg and Erika.

Well I am catholic but not the best one around, but i do go to church every week and read my bible a couple of times a week but I'm sure i could do better!
