Dick Armey To Retire!

Thu Dec 13, 2001 12:29 am

That is good news for people who can't stand the constant partisian bickering that takes place in the House of Representatives.

Having said that, may he have a happy, healthy retirement.

heh heh Good one!

He's a Congressman. Republican House Majority Leader. 9 years service. He said he felt since the GOP has the House and White House, it was a good time to get out.

He's basically the top Republican in the House of Representatives, a position that the House members of his own party vote him into....and since the Republicans have a majority of the seats in the House, he becomes 'Majority Leader'. Because of our two party system, he's a pretty important guy.

But Alpha, have you seen the guy who wants to replace him? Based on your comment about moving beyond partisan games and bickering, the elevation of Tom "Perfect Hair" DeLay to the position would shotgun this country straight from the frying pan into the hottest part of the fire.

DeLay is a snivelling asshole. He's Newt Gingrich, without the imagination. (At least Newt had some wild assed hairbrained visions now and then that went beyond idealogy into the realm of actual betterment for this country). DeLay on the other hand is a self serving egomaniac who thinks that all of America should resemble the bland, cookie cutter, environmentally disasterous Houston suburbs he comes from. Y'know all those tired, overblown stereotypes our European friends on this forum use to describe the average American? Well, sadly, they nailed him right on the money.

Plus this dude has a veritable fun house of skeletons in his closet. The Washington Post reports some Democrats can't wait until DeLay is elected.

The afterglow of the President's magnificent job in pursuing justice after 9/11 will eventually fade. It would be a sorry sorry thing to see the GOP pack explosives around the national unity we've achieved in these perilous months and blow it sky high by putting a visionary midget like Tom DeLay in the position he so salivatingly wants.
