Wu-Tang Clan: Iron Flag

Mon Dec 17, 2001 9:33 am

I am a huge Wu-Tang fan. I haven't heard anything about this album until tonight watching WWF HEAT on Mtv. Commercials say it will be released 18 December. This Tuesday. Anyone heard anything on this. Well, and rap music fans that is?

i am anticipating this as well. Have you heard the first single off Iron Flag called "Pinky Ring"? It was supposed to be called "The Uzi" but they changed it after Sept. 11. Its pretty good. After "The W" I am looking forward to this new album. RZA said it will be different from "The W" because it was made in NY, not LA, I hope it is different from "The W" because I didnt like it that much. Also this is the fastest Wu-Tang has come out with another album (its only been a year since their last one came out).

I had heard something about the "Uzi" awhile back, but forgot all about it. I am about to fire up WinMX and DL the "Pinky Ring" song now. With a return to NY, I hope to hear some more of the tried and tested East Coast beats. I liked The W, but on the merits of a couple of songs. "I can't get enough of "Careful, Click Click". Looks like Tuesday, I'll have to take a trip to the record shop, and cop me a copy of "Iron Flag".

I stopped by the local DJ store here in Chicago last week hoping I can get an advance copy of Pink Ring but no such luck. I'd surely like to get that on vinyl. From what I've heard from the DJ's at the store it sounds real good - the rhymes are supposed to be real tight and the rythms are suppose to be well, Wu-Tang like.

As someone who plays close attention to engineering, I'm sure as hell looking forward to it coming out.

Deltarnomd-80 what didn't you like about "W"? That album had some pretty tight cuts and had some pretty mean beats to it. I thought it was the one record that made RZA shine and be noticed to whoever hasn't noticed him before. Dude, anybody who hears "Redbull" and "One Blood Under W" has got to like this album. Play it again tonight maybe you'll like it this time! hehe. Of course my fav is always going to be "Enter the Wu-Tang".

well, I guess I can't say I didnt like the album. Maybe I just had it in my CD player for too long and burnt out, becuase I like "Redbull", "Conditioner", "Chamber Music", and "The Monument". I think I might have heard "Careful, Click Click" and "Do You Really (Thang, Thang)" too many times, and I didnt really like the Isaac Hayes thing with Ghostface whining. I'm just hoping Iron Flag has some songs like "Triumph" from Wu-Tang's 1997 album Forever. Oh, if you like RZA's beats, pick up his new album Digital Bullet, it's real good.

Rza's new joint, "Digital Bullets" is horrendous. Nothing like his near classic first solo album.

Okay, I picked up the joint today, and have only heard 4 or 5 songs so far, but the shit is slammin! So far, it is a deffinate Wu-Banga. I understand nothing they do will be like "Enter the Wu-Tang". It's hard when your first album is a Classic and a Masterpiece that was original, innovative, and changed the face of rap music. Anyway, it looks like Wu-Tang is back on the map again!

I haven't heard anything off this album yet, but I might buy it if enough people give it a good review. Rap sucks now, and everytime a new album comes out, I am very cautious when buying. The only Wu-Tang album I liked, was from way back in 93, we all know that was the sh*t. I prefer Wu-tang solo projects, those are some classic albums. Raekwon, Method, GZA, the list goes on.

So far, this album is good. I am definatly a hip-hop head, but I hate 95% of the new shit that comes out now a days. I love the shit from the 80's and early to mid 90's. This seems to be a good Wu effort though. Also, I love the GZA. He has my 2 favorite solo Wu albums. INS is great too. Raekwon's first album is a classic, but his second one is garbage.

The Wu- affiliated albums I have are:

Wu-Tang Clan: The W
Method Man: Tical 2000-Judgement Day
Inspecktah Deck: Uncontrolled Substance
GZA: Beneath The Surface
RZA: Bobby Digital In Stereo
RZA: Digital Bullet
Wu-Chronicles Chapter II
Killah Priest: View From Masada
Method Man & Redman: Blackout (not really a Wu style album but it has Meth in it)
Soul Assasins Chapter I
Soul Assasins Chapter II
Afu-Ra: Body Of Life Force (not really affiliated with Wu-Tang but kind of the same style of beats)

I wanna get Ghostface Killah's new album "Bulletproof Wallets" too. I went to my local record store (its the only one in a town of 8,300 and it reeks of tobacco and incense, privately owned place that kind of sucks) and he said that it (Iron Flag) didn't come out today and he said "The Source never has the right info" thinking that I thought the release date was today simply because I read it in the source, I was thinking to myself "no idiot, its been on TV and magazine ads too". Oh well, the guy charges over $20 for most CDs and I can get it at Best Buy for under $15 in Reno.

Soul Assassins are not Wu affiliated. D.J. Muggs who does the disks is a member of Cypress Hill. The Wu might have a joint on each album, but they are not Wu projects. Same goes for Afu-Ra. I have all the Wu solo albums except Ghostface's new one. Oh, and O.D.B.'s greatest hits, but I didn't think he had enough to make a greatest hits compilation. I have a bunch of the Wu offsprings too like Killarmy Wu-Tang Killa Bees, ect, but I stopped buying that, because usually they are not worth it. Now that I think about it, I don't have and albums by UGOD or Killa Priest. I will have to look into them. Inspecta Deck's disk is nice as is GZA's Beneath The Surface, but his Liquid Swords album is the best Wu solo album!

Oh, and the disk at Best Buy cost me $12.99. List was $13.99 but they always discount the new CD's.

"Movas and Shakers" I think is INS's best track, as well as the spliced up free styles throughout the disk as well.

Captain Clovis. You are here by awarded the rank of Major for your outstanding work in the invasion of France. Yet anyone who has listened to Jim Rome on the radio knows just how quick France is to surrended, lol. Be that as it may, Clovis for a job well done, enjoy the rank. You now have a new mission. The elimination of Soccer from France.

There is hope for France yet.

Let me know how Ghostface is. Not sure why, but I have been hesitant to get it. I wish Gza would drop another joint. Definatly my favorite Wu member.

I will let you know how Bulletproof Wallets is, I listened to it on the way to work, and so far I like tracks #3,4 (Never Be The Same Again feat. Carl Thomas, the first single), and 11. The Source gave the album 4.5 mics, but I know that The Source doesnt always give accurate ratings. GZA is my favorite member too, his style, flow, and voice are definitely the best in the Wu. There was an advertisement in the 'Beneath The Surface' liner notes advertising another GZA release in December 99, but obviously that never came to be.

I always wondered what happened to that Dec. 99 Gza album too. My main beef with IRON FLAG so far, is the lack of the Gza on the album. I understand there are 9 Wu members and all, and my 2nd and 3rd favorite Wu members in INS and Ghostface seem to be represented well, Gza is not. The album is very good though. Allot better than THE W.
