I do not think that acceptance rules need to be tighter. Remember, the ban on new users is only temporary so that Johan and others can weed out problems on this site as far as member go.
This is by far the best place to get information on aviation, and chat with people from around the world who share a common interest. For some wide-eyes, little 13-year old kid who wants nothing more than to fly, a.net is the best place to come, now what if we shut out that same little kid. There's tons of information out there, but can you really say that anything comes close to airliners.net? No, you can't, and this site should be freely accessable to all who want to come and discuss aviation.
I have always felt that we are a bit too hard on newbies here. It's an easy mistake to see another "What's your favorite plane," or "airbus vs. Boeing" post and forget to check if the person who posted it might be a newbie, and hasn't quite got the hang of the site and search features yet. Alot of us just jump the gun and bash the poor person, who might not have even known that that topic was forbidden/discussed to death.
I'm for relaxing the rules on newbies, of course, newbie troublemakers, who visibly TRY and start fights shoudl be removed immediately, yes. But the spread of information from these forums and this site should not be restricted to be out of reach of some yo or even old person with a dream, a goal, or an interest. A.net was created for a reason, let's not forget that.
That is all I have to say.
