College Bowl Games-Please Explain

Wed Jan 02, 2002 12:20 pm

OK. I feel like an idiot. I am a teenaged American male, but I do not see how all of these games can determine one team that is the best. Could someone tell me why these TV guys keep talking about a national champion when there are 25 championship games?

Thanks.

It doesn't determine anything. All these bowl games have one thing in mind:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Actually, although the Rose Bowl is the so called "national championship" only 1 of the 2 polls (AP) MUST vote the winner of that game the national champion. The ESPN/USA TODAY poll can vote ANYONE champion. Therefore, if Nebraska wins, they will automatically get 1 poll vote, while Oregon will PERHAPS get the ESPN/USA TODAY poll vote. That is what the commentators speak of when having a "split national champion." Either way, the winner of the Rose Bowl will get the Sears Trophy.
