Any Fans Of 60s Music? Help!

Wed Jan 09, 2002 1:21 am

A good friend of mine is having a birthday very soon, and has been saying for ages she wants 2 CDs of greatest hits by Dusty Springfield and Janis Joplin. I was thinking I would do them up myself, and use that money to buy her something nicer than CDs. So I need some suggestions as to what songs you would regard as being essential for a "Best of" CD of the 2 artists above.

I am drawing a total blank (almost) for both. All I can think of is:

Dusty Springfield

* Son of a preacher man

Janis Joplin

* Me and Bobby McGee
* Another little piece of my heart
* Mercede Benz (my cousin who is about the same as Janis in stature and voice can sing this better than Janis herself....IMHO).

Please help guys and gals....cheers

Dusty Springfield songs:

My very favorite is "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me".

Others are: "The Look Of Love", "If You Go Away", and "Wishing And Hoping".

Janis Joplin:

"Ball and Chain"
"Summertime"

BTW, where do you get these? I've noticed many MP3 sites do not have pre 1980 songs.

I checked those links, but what I am more interested in is what do you guys and gals think.....in all Greatest Hits compilations there are also a song or two which they leave out.

Yeah, I agree, but I'm not very familiar with these singers.

I was dissapointed that "Back In The USSR" was left out of "Beatles 1" CD.

"Flying from Miami on BOAC, man did I have a dreadful flight" (or something like that)

Your version of the lyrics isn't too far off. I have the White Album here, and have just put it on...my singing the song didn't quite help to clarify  Smile ....this is what I hear:

flew in from Miami Beach BOAC didn't get to bed last night..on the way the paper bag was on my knee man I had a dreadful flight....I'm back in the USSR....you don't know how lucky you are boy....back in the U.S.S.R.

And before anyone says that I should know everything about Dusty Springfield (may she RIP) and her music, I can only say that this is the 21st century....we don't worship Dusty....we worship ABBA and Kylie  Laugh out loud

Buy REEL TO REELS or a Turntable (For the Serious Music Lover). Big grin

Lortab 7.5mg:
'The Look of Love' was written by Burt Bacharach & David.
Performed best by Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66.  Smokin cool

I like that song by Janis Joplin about Alice in Wonderland. I think it's called "Alice," but I'm not sure.

"One pill to make you bigger. One pill to make you small. But the ones that mother gives you don't do anything at all."

You're right! DAAA! Embarrassment

It kinda sounds like Joplin though. Anyway it's still a really cool tune.

Thanks for the correction,
