Yes, there is a town called Yass, it's 45 minutes from Canberra. Yes there is a MacDonalds in Yass and yes, MacDonalds should read their signs before putting them up....

"Nothing sucks like electrolux"-Vacuum cleaner ad. Got more so I'll dig them up later. After being used successfully in Europe, it got pulled off the US after 3 days!

ADG, SUPER POST, Please take the sign down and FedEx it to me, it would look perfect on my front lawn. Or on second thought I could give it to one of the Gastro-Intestinal docs for HIS front lawn

yeah, not the best choice of name for a car...

i used to know a number of these, the only one that comes to mind is that pepsi slogan, which when translated ended up meaning something like 'pepsi brings your ancestors back from the grave' -- i think this was in china.

cheers,

kp

Nova was a flop because 'No va' is Spanish for "It doesn't go." (something like that)

ADG, that's hilarious!

Why didn't the Ford Pinto sell in Brazil? Pinto is a Brazilian slang for "Tiny Male Genitals!"

I've got the Pepsi one as well.
"Live with the Pepsi Generation" got translated into "Pepsi will bring your Ancestors back from the dead" in Taiwan.

Also, KFC's "Finger lickin' good" got translated in chinese into "Eat your fingers off"

Hunt-Wessen introduced its Big john products in Quebec as Gros Jos before learning that it means "big breasts" in French.

Rolls Royce thought of calling its next model Silver Mist until they found out that "mist" meant "dung" in German.

French car manufactuarar Citröen bruoght up a new model called "Saxo"to Turkish market and could't make too much profit, because when it translated it meant "oral sex" in vulgar in Turkey.

In Aberdeen, Washington, there is a seafood store that has its slogan proudly displayed on its window

I have seen a hairdressing salon in the South of England called 'Blow Jobs'
I used to think the brain is the most fascinating part of my body. But, hey, who is telling me that?

Sorry to disappoint you TWA902fly but "hump" in railway terminology means to push an unpowered vehicle up and over a hump in the track and allow it to free-wheel into a siding. Now if it had said "Do not shag"....

Disgressing a bit, my favorite story of translation screw-ups was a southern politician in Russia (I think it was Russia?). Anyway, he said "I'm tickled to death to be here." The translator said to the crowd in Russian, "I so happy to be here, I want you to scratch me until I die."

DOH!!!!!!!

Here are some names of hair salons I've seen. They are not screw-ups, but still are interesting.

The Hair Force
Headhunters
The Mane Thing
Hair It Is!

I saw an eatery that was featured on Leno one night that had the name of: "Sam A. Nella's". I think that's how it was spelled anyway.

I got one off a church sign right by me - I have a picture of that but I don't know how to put it on. Anyone knows how?

Anyway, here it is. There was something like this written on it -

Worship - 8:30-10:30
Satan divides and subtracts
God adds and multiplies.

Basically, from the first look it said - Worship Satan. I wanted to prank call that church, but they changed the sign 5 days after I took the picture.

Again, please tell me how to post pics on here. Thanks.
