Most Horrific Life Experiences?

Wed Jan 23, 2002 12:41 pm

What have been some of your more traumatic, destabilising, shocking, cruel, horrific life experiences?

I saw someone get shot in the head in the Bronx. That was very very sick because it happend right infront of me (well about 10 feet) and I saw the guy pull out the gun from his Fubu jeans, and bend his arm into a L shape and click... The guy died from massive head wounds. Turns out they were fighting over "turf" since they were both in a gang. I was interviewed by the police and everything.

Another thing is when I go to a fire (since I am a firefighter) and I see a house burning to the ground and the family watch as everything they own go up in flames. It makes me sad every time I see it.
Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten, Uptown, what now? Lets make it happen.

Litterally twisting my balls in 7th grade....in school. Yes, it is possible. About 1 in every 100 men have this happen to them. That was a BAD experience.

I saw a girl get hit by a speeding car and fly up into the air only to get hit by an oncoming truck. She died instantly after hitting the truck. It was really bad because it was right in front of about 20 kindergarten students waiting for a schoolbus.

Seeing the wreckage of PA103 attending the funerals from PA 103 and the WTC disaster.

174thfwff. I can understand what you go through guy. On my two years with the FDNY I've seen that stuff myself. It the worst part of the job. The best is knowing everyone made it out alive and well.

Some ten years ago I visited a hostel for mentally retarded children in Belorussia. This was the first time (and the last time, I hope) I saw children treated like pigs: crowded rooms, most of them barely dressed and covered with dirt. Aged between perhaps 6 and 16 they never took a step outside.

---- cut ----

Greg, I'm not TWFirst (in case you don't know) but me thinks you are just jealous.  Big thumbs up

The poverty that I saw in both Haiti and Colombia was very depressing to me. In both cases I saw little kids risk their lives just for a few cents in the form of begging or trying to sell someone.

When I was in Haiti, I went on a kayak tour and we were about a half mile offshore when all of a sudden a little kid comes floating up to us on a tiny piece of styrofoam and tried to sell us stuff..

In Colombia, we were at a monastery in Cartagena that is located on top of a 500 foot tall cliff, and little kids were climbing the cliff and sticking long sticks with cups on the end (to put change in) through the fence once they got high enough...They were begging, but also risking their lives at the same time...it was not a pretty sight...

NoUFO...he hasn't shown me a thing to be jealous about yet (he just keeps bragging...).

I guess my most horrific experience has been when one of my parents passed away unexpectedly.

For some reason, 9/11 was terrible to witness on TV..but didn't really effect me in any personal way. It just seemed a bit surreal.

September 11th. Nuff said.

I was only about a half-mile away when the World Trade Center's south tower fell. I heard a huge roar, followed by screams from the crowd, and a few seconds later saw massive clouds of smoke and dust where the tower had stood (a nearby building blocked my view of the actual collapse). Yet somehow, this wasn't a horrifying experience ... it was just too large to grasp, making it unreal.

I saw a judge (female, of course), impose court supervised visitation to my brother (of his daughter), and jack up his child support payments to 520% of the legal minimum after his ex accused him of being a liar.
This, I hear, is normal.
What was bad was that the woman in question, a diagnosed sociopath, was in the process of defending herself from charges of criminal possesion of a controlled substance (heroine), attempted homicide, and tax fraud. The judge, (the Hon. Sheila Birnbaum, Rockville City Circut Court), apparently thought that her "rights" as mother, despite this woman's general state of awfulness, need not be molested.
So, my brother, who is a CPA, and has led a life of resposibility constistant with boringness & stability (very much unlike his flamming alcoholic aircargo pilot twin...wink wink), is now only allowed to see his daughter when a court appoint flunky (who knows not the first thing about how to raise a child I am sure), finds it convenient to actually show up, while his ex gets more cash.

I know it isn't graphic or anything, but someone told me that this sort of thing didn't happen in America. Given a choice (knowing this sort of thing happend here), I wouldn't move to this nation given a second chance.

PROSA; Did you notice from the past news reprots that when Tower 2 fell there wasn't any reaction at all. Alot of people were numb to see it fall. The shocker was the South Tower judging by the amount of screams that I could hear on the footage that was shown on NBC, CBS and ABC

I went through something similar to that WIN700driver.

As far as horrific life experiences. About two years ago my wife was pregnant, our baby was about mid way through the 2nd trimester when it was diagnosed with Anencephaly. What that means is it head looked liked it had been hit with a close range shotgun blast, resulting in no brain forming. Due to this the doctors recommended they deliver the baby early because the baby was brain dead. This is called a therapuetic abortion. Upon delivering the baby we had to give it a name and recieved a death certificate. We spent several hours with our dead infant just holding his lifeless body, very sad and I will never forget it. What really stuck me hard was how much like a baby he looked at that time. Abortion rethoric never shows you this.

Thanks jsj119  Smile/happy/getting dizzy I wish you dad and bro well as they continue to save lives. Judging by your profile it looks like you're from Conneticut. Depending where you guys are it's pretty easy compared to NYC. If you're in Hartford I do hear that you guys have way more than your share.

Waiting in vain at LHR after a long TA flight for Rula to pick me up and whisk her off for a tour of London. To be entranced. To be ENTERTAINED.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.
