Applications For Long Division Of Polynomials?

Fri Feb 01, 2002 11:31 am

Are there any real applications related to long/synthetic division of polynomials? I haven't been able to find any, and was wondering if there are any engineers or such on this board that would have a real-life application, not stuff like "If Jack hit a baseball--blah, blah, blah--how high up would it go?

Yes, most crypto and error correcting algorithms (used in almost every piece of modern digital equipment, from CD players to cell phones) employ polynomial division.
