What Are Your Opinions Of Bobby Knight?

Tue Feb 05, 2002 12:01 pm

I dont agree with what he does. He is a jerk as a person. He is, however, one of the greatest coaches ever in College Basketball.

Yes, better than Wooden, and Krewcewski (???LOL) Dean Smith.

The reasons Bob Knight wasn't fired after 29 years of being an asshole is because of what he did for IU and because of what he did for the game of basketball. Legendary John Wooden, believes that Knight is one of the greatest coaches to ever teach the game, and has frequently praised Knight's technics.

Look how much talent all those UCLA, Duke and North Carolina had... Look at how many people they sent to the pros. You can count on one hand, how many "great" pro basketball players came out of Indiana... Crap, I can only think of one! Isiah Thomas. hehe. Its one thing to be able to get athletes, that know they are good, to play together. Good example, Michigan. Lets think of the possibilities of Bobby Knight, coached the Fab Five..

The first possibility that comes to mind, is U of M wouldnt have lost a game in 4 years... Yea, its easy to say that...

Then I ponder.... and ponder... and ponder... EHEHEHHEHEEHH .. C Web, Rose, King, Howard, Jackson.... 3 of those players would have quit after the 3rd practice citing "Hes too tough wahhhh... I m going to transfer".

All in all, Knight can get players motivated. As I said, I dont agree with all his tactics. He used the "Fear Factor" to get results. Even going as far as socking his own son (who played for him) during a game."

In an interview with Connie Chung, he stated...“I think if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.”

Once said he wanted to be buried upside down “so my critics can kiss my ass” .. HAHA.

Its safe to say, he didnt care. He still doesnt. Still coaching at Texas Tech. Turning them into a winning team. No talent. He is bringing the best out of his players, in a way, only Bobby Knight can.

A lot of players left because of Bobby Knight. Its also fact that a lot of players stayed and stuck it out. Isiah Thomas, once said " Coach, never change".

I cannot wait for A Season on the Brink. This should be one of the best sports related shows in a while.

You dont know him "as a person" do you? Most people dont. His "asshole" front covers up an absolutely brilliant individual that has more integrity than most people who have ever lived.

I could give stories about what this guy has done for people, for students, players, families. He refuses to take credit or be praised for any of it. So few people know the good this guy has done.

People who know him on a personal level (many people in my immediate family) have great respect for him.

NOw, the reason he was kicked out of IU was because it became an ego-fest between the president and Knight. The Pres. hated the publicity that Knight brought to himself, needless to say, the man was jealous.

there ya go, and those are more than "opinions".

Yes, he had a bad temper but that's Bobby Knight, and if you cant take the good with the bad, then he doesnt care.

I should hope his "immediate family" respects him! Isnt that only right that your family members stick by you?

Man was an asshole, plain and simple.. He WAS a good coach.

Slapped Kentucky coach Joe B. Hall on back of head during game; called Michigan coach Bill Frieder a “chickenshit son of a bitch”; ejected for screaming at Illinois coach Lou Henson, who called him a “classic bully”

Arrested for assaulting policeman in Puerto Rico
Wants to invade Colombia

Isaiah Thomas: “Coach Knight demands total loyalty from his players”

For suspected abuse of players, fined $30,000

This was posted in a message board dedicated to this production...

I went to the same high school as Pat Knight. We were good friends all through out high school. I had asked Pat for a ticket to a game our which he was able to get. After the game was over he took me down to the locker room to interduce me to his father. In high school I never wore socks only tennis shoes and it was the middle of winter in Bloomington.

We go up to coach and Pat says "Dad, this is my friend____." "_____ this is my father Bob Knight. "Nice to meet you and thank you for the ticket" I said. Coach Knight looks at me and says "Are your parents too poor to afford socks? I said "No Sir." Coach says "Well it is the middle of @#%$ winter, the next time we meet I want you to have socks on." "Yes sir" I said.

Kid then went on to say he didnt think he meant anything by it... But still, its harsh.
