I'm getting to like these non-aviation posts a lot more.. I thought that this was turning into a forum orgy myself at the begining.. But seems like everyone is getting on each other's nerves. Great.

Anyway, my perfect Mardi Gras idea I proposed to my friend... Let's not worry about getting a hotel room for each night, Let's just sleep with different (or the same person) each night! Free room and board and they get something out of it... I mean, they are getting lucky, we are saving money. Any objections? Ok, yes that sounds trashy but fun too.

This post has burgeoned way too fast. In any case, nothing beat the original series movies. There was a very familial sense to them. As far as TV is concerned, here's my whole thing:
First, the acting gets worse with each series. The original series may have been cheesier than any cellphone-holding modern human can imagine possible, but the acting was stellar. TNG was cool too, with the occasional strangeness, but by te time we got to DS9 I was falling asleep with each new season. I don't even watch Enterprise half the time.
Second, I am really annoyed that each series introduces one less level of intelligence and one more of sci-fi/sex/violence. Sure those sell, but they just aren't what Trek was about. It's like they've de-virginized Trek (now how's that fit into a post about dating people, I wonder?). One of the more popular Voyager episodes was "Year of Hell" whereas I thought it was so friggin' stupid I couldn't apologize enough to my eyes for having watched the whole thing. The problem is that when Roddenberry died he gave the whole thing to Rick Berman and I'll be d*mned if Rick Berman is anything but a classic sci-fi guy with not a single speck of upward intelligence. He knows what sells and makes it and that's all well and good but I'd prefer space ships which didn't all look like each other (ala this new "old" Enterprise, the Akira class ships, the Steamrunner class ships, etc.), and something more to stimulate my brain than people blowing each other up, killing each other, or falling in love whilst rubbing strange gels all over each other's model-perfect bodies as selected by XYZ acting agency. I also detest the guy who plays the captain on Enterprise.
TNG was definitely the best series now that I think about it. Kirk was supposed to die alone, so they screwed that up terribly, and yeah - what with the bridge bit? I thought maybe it was supposed to be a pathetic metaphor for the bridge of a ship but either way it wasn't really great. I did, however, like his last line, "It was fun" was a classic Kirk thing to say. Janeway had her moments but they were few and far between and no one on the new series can act worth crap. But for all that, you can't replace Spock, Scotty, Sulu, Kirk, and Chekov. They were the best. The best.
