Anybody Out There Got An Old Computer?

Fri Feb 22, 2002 7:14 am

KROC will probably shaft me, but it's his fault. He insulted my Commodore 64 in one of his replies, then the Atari, Kaypro, and Wang owners came out of the woodwork. Does anyone have an operating old computer just for the fun of it? I've got a Commodore 64 and a 128, as well as an assortment of disk drives, plug in accesories, etc. Every once in a while, I'll warm the beast up for some Super Zaxon, or the original SubLogic flight Simulator (there's nothing like seeing Chicago drawn in wire-frame). Anyone else suffer from this sickness?  Nuts

I have a Commodore 64 tucked away in my closet. I haven't fired it up since about 1992 or so. So I have no idea if it still works or not.

But it doesn't really matter. I never did really learn how to use it. I have a couple of games, and a flight simulator game for it, plus a box of 5" blank Kodak colored discs. I couldn't even figure out how to format the discs.

Someday, just for fun, I should pull it out, dust it off, and hook it up and see what I can do with it.

The oldest computer in my house is a Kaypro II. I can't remember what my Dad paid for it brand new but it was around $2500 and he said that was a bargin for back then.

We've given away two 486s and one 386 so the slowest running machine in the house is PII-200.

My oldest is an ancient TRS-80 compatible; I´ll have to dig it up one day to try rescuing some of my earlier work...  Wink/being sarcastic

I have one of the first pentium based systems that I use for my databases. I built it many years ago and it is so much faster than this 800 Mhz thing I use for the internet. Of course it is not plagued by the Windows operating system, just good old DOS 6.1. I turn it on and within 60 seconds I'm happily updating my databases. This thing I'm using now takes 3 minutes just to load Windows and another 5 to get operational.

My brother has my old Mac SE that I bought in college. What's sad is that was about a $3500 computer then! Now you can play one game on it and listen to it "bing."
