Where To Stay In San Francisco?

Sat Feb 23, 2002 2:05 am

I´m planning to come to San Francisco next summer.

For San Francisco I want to have a real nice hotel. The last time I stayed south of San Francisco. I didn´t liked that much!

This time I want to stay in the mittle of the city!
The price should be around 130 - 200 $ per night!

Last year I have stayed in the Howard Jonson hotel at the Fishermans Wharf, the previous year I have stayed in a hotel called the Wharf Inn, also located at the Fishermans Wharf. Both hotels where ok, the Howard Jonson had a minibar in the room and it wasn`t that expensive.

Oh I understand!

Well nice would be some kind of hippy thing if there is still something like that in Haight Ashbury. I don´t know!
I stayed a few times in sfo but was always under 21 and not interested in the "hippy culture" !

If you know some places, that would be perfect!

Where are you coming from? Why not stay in Tahoe, or Reno instead? Or even NAS Lemoore area... Its boring there, I know, but, its got to be better than San France.

I´m from Austria!

I stay only 2 days in SFO thereafter I drive up to Chico, stay there one week and then I drive down to LA via HWY 1. From LA I drive to the Grand Canyon then Las Vegas, Death Valley, Mono Lake, Lake Tahoe and than back to Chico.

Ahhh, that's what I thought. I've always wanted to cruise down that highway. We have some nice scenery here in Canada, but I've always wanted to rent a convertible roadster (if possible) and cruise with the sun in my face, the top down, and the ocean air!!

Why San Jose? What can you do there? I know nothing about San Jose!

@ Von Richthofen: That´s what I´m planning to rent a convertibel and drive down there! I have a Ford Mustang or something like that on my mind!

I don´t know about the new Mustangs, but I think those rental´cars have the smallest engine? Do you know how much horsepower that engine would have?

My favorites are the old Mustangs!

I'm just kidding around.

I am not that familiar with San Francisco anymore, I moved away in 1973, but have visited many times.

It is a very expensive city for a tourist to stay in a hotel. SFO airport is about half way between San Francisco and San Jose. Your travel planes indicate that you are heading south anyhow.

I'm just saying that you can get a better cheaper hotel there and still sight see in San Francisco with less than an hours drive, (depending on time of day, Rush Hour).

If you had time, I would strongly recommend heading north to the Wine Country.

Thank you for the information!

Yes, I thought about going nort not into the valley but through the Napa Valley!

I don´t know yet how I should include that in my travel plan.

Is it nice there? What can you do?

If you had time, I would strongly recommend heading north to the Wine Country.

If you base out of Santa Rosa, about 80 miles north of SFO, you will be in the middle of Sonoma County. This arguably the center of the wine producing capital of California.

The Korbel Champagne Winery is an absolute "must see"! Stop in at Healdsburg before you go there and get some fine cheese, sourdough bread, and deli meats first. Buy some bottles of champagne at Korbel after the tour, then drive for 15 minutes and have a picnic in a Redwood forest.

I have spent many vacations wandering around this area with no particular destination in mind.

If I didn't have to work, this is one place I could live quite happily.

FLY 8:

The V6 Mustang is rated at 190 hp

The V8 Mustang is rated at 260 hp

I'm sure there'll be a place where you can rent a GT.

You can also check out the "Mama Lou's". That's an exellent bar with good live rythem & blues music. Right at Fischerman's Whorf.
