Well, he was 83! We can't expect these people to live forever I suppose. I guess in about 20 years time we'll be saying the same things when the Python's go - Graham Chapman notwithstanding.
I have to say that all his brilliant work aside, the one thing Spike Milligan did which made me fall off my chair laughing was when he received a lifetime achievement award at the British comedy awards. For those that missed it, an already frail Milligan went up to receive it and was read a message from his biggest fan, Prince Charles. The message praised him to the hilt, and the presenter Jonathan Ross was halfway through when Spike piped up "Oh, the grovelling little bastard!"
Cue absolute anarchy, with the audience crying with laughter. As a comic moment, I think that summed him up. A true genius.
