Your Thoughts On Your Very First Post

Fri Mar 01, 2002 9:12 pm

I'm doing a little experiment here to figure out something. Here's what I want some of you to do, (especially due to some signs of boredom in this particular forum.)

Do a search and copy & paste your very first thread-starting post here (doesn't matter from which forum you're doing it). Mind you, it must be a thread-starter rather than a reply. Then write one or two lines reflecting on why you posted it, or if you now think differently, or whether it would be something you'd STILL post today. (eg., do you think it was "stupid" in retrospect? Or do you think you might have unintentionally started a flame war, such as an "innocent" Airbus vs. Boeing question? etc.)

*Now, for you long-time and very active members, this may take some time for the search mechanism to go all the way back to your first thread starter. On the other hand, with Johan's new server and faster speed, it may not take long at all. Hopefully, you can be patient.

I hope this little experiment works.

Ok, I'll go first. (Gosh, it took a while to reach this thread!)...

Topic: God Bless AWA, TWA & Ual!

I just wanna send a hearty word of warmth to all employees of America West, TWA, and United for their extreme professionalism and dedication during your periods of hard times.

For a long time now, UA continues to be known around the world for its superior world class service, even during the recent labor unrest. I think special attention now needs to be directed to AWA and TWA as well.

TWA has managed to come back from a poor reputation and poor decisions, to a stature not quiet enjoyed by the likes of world class wannabes such as CO and DL. Way to go Trans World.

And you, America West. ...Can you become even more magnificently professional with your hard-working and smiling reservationists, mechanics, FAs, and ramp people? Your CEO might be temporarily misguided, but no one would never know this travelling through PHX, LAS, and CMH!

I'm just gonna say what most people already know but are afraid to say: That America West Airlines truly is a WORLD CLASS model.

>>This ended up being very controversial, just like I thought it would. It was a deliberate flame bait on my end, and members just fell for it. It was a riot!!
 Big thumbs up

Hmmm, I was thinking about making a simillar thread, but looks like I saved some time here.  Big grin

Ok, my first ever post was the start of a thread in aviation photography. Here is what I wrote:

Hi There.

I'm a rather new "member" of and have sendt them some of my best pictures several times. Sadly, all have been rejected. Thats because the scanning quality isn't good enough. I've tried my very best to scan as good as possible on my AGFA Duoscan T1200, but it still is not good enough to be accepted. I'm told this is a very good scanner, so either the person who said so didn't know too much about scanners after all, or I'm doing something wrong.

It seems no matter what I do to get the perfect scan, it's either too blurry or too sharp or something else. And when I try to adjust it correctly afterwards, I end up with an even worse result.

I'm extreemly desperate for some advice. It could help me realise my dream of finally getting a picture on

I'm grateful to any helpful response.

I had not learned how the smilies worked.  Smile

I quicly got advice from Vasco Garcia to run a search on the topic in the database. I did so and was still stuck, but atleast my userprofile was up and running. And hey it still is 1 year and 133 days later. Big grin

Btw, that was 3354 posts ago. That means I have posted on average 6,7 posts a day.  Smile

Boy reading this post form 1998...Which I put up before I had my current username, I have got to wonder if Reeve would still be around if they had actually gotten Dash-8s.

Would anybody out there have any information on why Reeve Aleutian Airways has a mechanics position advertised in the Anchorage Daily News ( specificly asking for experience with 727 and the DHC-8??? WHen I worked there they had 727's and L-188's but no dash eights to be seen. Are they finaly replacing their L-188's??? To bad if true. I hope it's not but it wouldn't suprise me if it was.

I've searched and searched the forums for an answer to my question, but I can't find one! What is the advantage of being respected by someone? What is the difference between being respected and not being respected by someone? I guess what I'm trying to ask is- what do you get out of being respected by someone?
Thx for the future imput-Hurricane

Sad thing was, though, that I only posted it to say I had started a thread. Didn't really need an answer... Big grin

Does anyone have any clue where the first L-1011 is?
Does anyone have any pictures of the prototype of my favorite airliner?

I knew that I had a book with the information in it, but I was so lazy and I wanted to see how long it would take for a response to appear on the thread.
Plus that was my first ever post(A thread starter!!)

I am not a pilot, but I work in the aircraft brake manufacturing industry. I just wanted to know how many of you have had an RTO and how common they are. Also what's it like to ride one out.

And if anyone can tell me the different levels of RTO's.

Thanks in advance,

I had some pretty good stories, but never got an answer to the different levels of RTOs.  Sad

This isn't an airliner, but it is the most "exotic" airplane I have flown on.

When I was an Air Cadet a few years ago at Trenton Air Cadet Camp it was a real thrill. They took all the "Air Studies" cadets up for a 1 hr ride on a Herc (all others only got a flight on an A310). We buzzed Kingston with the the rear ramp down and then pulled up hard just a few feet above the runway- quite an experience! Then, coming in for landing, the crew decided to demostrate the STOL performance, throwing on full power with the pitch reversed, and slowing down in less than 500 ft. The pilots really tried to make it fun for us cadets.

I flew this CP DC-10-30 with the signature c/s from YYZ-LHR and back again in 1996. The signatures are those of employees who bought stock in the airline when it was failing a few years before.
Many say that the DC-10 is badly designed due to the rush to get it out before the L1011. However, I will always have a soft spot for them since as a child I travelled on CP DC-10s more than a dozen times on various trips. Too bad they will be gone soon from CP service since AC will surely replace them with A330/340s.

This was probably just self-glossing that prompted this post, "wow, look at me, I've flow on a herc"  Smile

Does anyone know where the CP DC-10s are going now? I have been told that they are all being removed from the fleet as we speak.

This was probably the main reason I joined as a member after passivley watching for a few months previously. I was very ditraught because Canadian Airlines had just been bought out by Air Canada and my favourite aircraft, the DC-10s were being withdrawn from service. I guess misery was seeking compnay  Smile

Just wondering, can a De Havilland (Boeing) Canada Dash 7 still fly when two of the four engines fail? There is a DHC 7 Asian Spirit flight to an airstrip near Boracay, Philippines and people there said that it can.

I was pretty nervous making the very first post back then. I currently feel stupid as I know most quads can limp on two engines if it occurs at cruise phase.

I had just moved to Seattle and the WTO riots broke out. Security was tight around BFI, so I could not get close enough to see some of the 737s and 757s waiting for delivery. So, I posed this:

I should know this, living in the Seattle area and all but, where can I find information on the planes ready for delivery setting at Boeing Field?

I looked through some of the other topics I started. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?!?!?
