Should I Go Microwave My Food?

Mon Mar 04, 2002 7:46 pm

Hmm... here's my problem*:
It's 5am and no one in my house gets up for another two or three hours, but I am STARVING and want to go make a plate of pasta or something else I can just grab from the fridge and throw in the nuker. I'm afraid I'd wake up my parents, however, and they'd be pissed. They wouldn't kill me or spank me or ground me or anything, but still... oh well. I guess I'll go do it and see what happens.

Yeah it will, not when it's running but when it finishes and goes BEEEEEP BEEEEEEEP. I had the same problem too for years, everybody is asleep and I was always hungry in the middle of the night. And I mean HUNGRY. An apple or a bowl of cereal wouldn't cut it. It drove me nuts. Then my sister moved back and she had a better microwave so I got the older one. I have the basement so I hooked it up down here.

Now everything is complete, there's a microwave, a fridge, and a freezer down here. I keep some dishes and silverware in my room too just incase I want some left-over stir fry or some pizza pops at 3am.

 Big thumbs up

Thank you for sharing my misery!!! Our microwave hollers like an air horn when it's done, so I just stood there as it worked and when it got down to 1 sec. I stopped it and retreived the food.

Next question - why are TV dinners not the size of TVs? There's enough food here for a large ant, perhaps...?

"so I just stood there as it worked and when it got down to 1 sec. I stopped it and retreived the food."

I to, developed this technique. It works, but there's still some risk (closing the door, or a plate hitting the glass plate inside the microwave can in some cases generate enough noise to wake somebody up).

As for TV dinners: The only ones I like are the "Michelina's" brand pasta ones. Swanson "Hungry Man" aren't bad either. But both are too small for me.

My mother likes "Lean Cuizines" because they're low fat...yeah no wonder they're low fat, there's nothing there!!

Well, Nathan ..........

We're all holding our individual & collective breath here!!!

Did you wake up mom & pop?

You being near ORD.....doesn't a 767 roaring overhead wake them up too? (Or are you THAT close?)  Smile

I'm not a popcorn fan anyway.

As far as being quiet goes, I screwed it up anyway: we keep soda cans stacked horizontally in piles in the Crisper drawer rather than on a shelf, and I retreived one which I thought to be on top, but another was leaning on it and rolled into the cavity where the one I took came from, with a loud thud!

Lax, we never hear planes here. Yesterday at work there was this blasting roar, which is highly unusual, it must've been a heavily laden 747 struggling to gain altitude overhead. In the middle of the night there aren't any flights anyway, unless they're cargo coming in or going out, but no, there's very little jet noise here.

Anyway, I doubt me clunking the pop cans around helped any, but no one seemed to notice.

Funny how people confuse quality and content.
The quality of this post is 100%. It's harmless, it obviously is interesting to some folks, etc. and so forth. There's nothing wrong with it's quality.  Wink/being sarcastic

lol, ok, I have nothing against it because otherwise I just would not have responded. My first thought was only like "mhhh, do we really need to know?" and "he isn't askingh for advice or anything so why was it posted in the first place?"

Lax, the issue is noise. If going outside will make the door squeak, the fence rattle, the dog bark, etc., then no, don't. You'll be at high risk in serious danger. I'm afraid that this topic scares me considerably, so I suggest you take my paranoid advice and just plain don't. Who needs a newspaper anyway when you can hide here on Airliners.Net and get all the biased news in the world?

The music is EJD/Life. Other people call it "Elton John Denver" (as in Elton John + John Denver), somewhere in between those two. I call it Life because it's somewhere between Folk and Country with enough Pop/Soft Rock to keep it alive.

Just press cancel when it's a couple of seconds left and then shut the owen off. Then you don't have the annoying alarm when the "nuked" food is ready.

Guys I think we should help Lax, he's in a real sticker of a situation.

Speaking of microwaves:
At work (I work in a restaurant) we have 2 sitting side by side, and they both bleep at the same rythym (bleep bleep bleep bleep, to be specific), but at different tones (one goes bleeeep and the other more of a bleehhhp); it's quite fun to microwave two things at once (or nothing, just to amuse oneself) and see if you can't get them to go off at once, or alternate. Hee hee.

Hey hey.......

Don't you realize it's not recommended that you operate a microwave while EMPTY!

It's unsafe.....and I think against the law in Iowa! (I might be wrong there though.)  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

It could be worse. My friend walked through his roommate's room today (had to to get to the kitchen) and the roommate suddenly pulled the covers over himself and tossed a magazine behind the bed. Ewwwww......the lights were on too! And his last roommate got caught by a female houseguest doing the same thing. I usually make it a point to cough or something when I want to go into his kitchen and have to pass through roommate's room... Sad
