I think it's not allowed in Quebec but it's allowed in Ontario. It's either that way or the other way around!

It is allowed throughout the state of Illinois, and yes, you always stop first.

In Europe it´s never allowed to turn right when the it´s red!

In Germany it IS allowed! But only if there's a special sign.
Before the Reunion of Germany, it was not allowed in the FRG, but it was allowed in the GDR. After the reunion, new Germany took on this rule.

Since we drive on the left over here.....Imagine the chaos that would cause! Big grin

But in the spirit in which it is asked, no we can't turn LEFT on a red light.

I think in most of the United States it is allowed unless otherwise marked. Some goofy intersections here in Iowa City prohibit right turns on red.

School buses cannot turn right on red and many have a sign on the back saying this. I can turn right on red with my transit bus though.

Our state briefly allowed a 'Thru on Red' at T-intersections. If you were going straight across the 'T' and no one was coming, your could proceed through on red. It lasted about a year and then went away. I used it once, but 95% of the time, no one did.

In Europe you can't turn right when it's red; when it's green, there's an orange light indicating that pedestrians have the priority.
In France, when it's green to go straight, it is also allowed to turn left (the cars coming from the opposite direction have the priority); it's not a good system, and I'm not accustomed as we don't have it in Switzerland.

I think it's not good to speak of "Europe" as one country here... Every single country has other laws... You can't they that it is generally not allowed in Europe. As I have already posted, it IS allowed in Germany, and Germany is in Europe... (at least i think so *g*)

That is of course true, Matt. But the proximity of the countries within Europe means that traffic laws tend to be similar across the continent. Having said that, I was not aware that the rule existed in Germany - it's been a while since I drove there! Of course, in Britain and Ireland we do things differently, but we're islands and are therefore well known as a strange, cantankerous lot! Big grin

I don't think you're allowed to in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, or YWG.

Not positive though

As what Banco said, in Singapore, if we did a right turn on a red light, it would be utter chaos. Since we drive on the left.

Anyway at quite a few junctions here, if there's a sign saying "Left turn at red", you can turn left at red. It's usually at roads that are not too busy.

Also, we're only allowed to U turn when there's a U turn sign at the junction. Unlike other countries where you only can't U turn when there's a no U turn sign at the junction.(get what the hell i'm trying to say?? hehe)

In Bangkok it would appear that the traffic lights are there for decorative purposes only, as you seem to be able to do what you want at any given moment!  Big thumbs up

Actually it is now allowed in some parts of Quebec, but not in Montreal and probably never will be here.

I moved a lot and in most US cities it is allowed unless marked. In fact it is usually assumed you can unless marked.

In Texas you can turn left on red if it is two intersecting one way streets. Though U-turns are usually bad. In Oklahoma U-turns are usually marked as ok.

Texas, and the rest of the Southwest have many center turn lanes so that is allowed as well, but when I was in Northwest Florida there were almost no turn lanes. Overseas it was different in every country I lived in but I will say in Belize we had driving thoughts but no driving laws  Big grin.......Blah Blah I'll stop now

Though I have to say I have seen exactly two of those "green arrows" as they´re called here in West Germany during the 11.5 years we´re reunited now - while the East is still plastered with them.

On most intersections in Michigan you can turn right on a red light, unless there is a sign that says "NO RIGHT TURN ON RED".. Those are found usually in dense areas or blind corners.

Here in my part of Ohio, most of the time you can, but often there are restrictions like no turn during school hours. That doesn't make much sense to me being that during school hours, all the kids are in school, so what's the deal with that?

Hi!

With caution in Mexico City it is allowed to make LEFT & RIGHT turns on red light.

In Guadalajara it is not allowed to make a single turn on red light.
